Byron,
Accreditation also shows additional recognition of your school and that means so much!
Jennifer,
Some certification or licensure to practice in the field requires acceditation.
Francisco,
Good point. Accrediting agencies will not consider your application until you have active, licensure in good standing with the state.
Bobbie,
Licensing and accreditation are two very different aspects of schools. The state is the licensing authority. Accreditation is voluntary.
Shan,
There are various accrediting bodies that focus on different career schools and their programs. Most are expensive and time consuming. Be aware also that there arw bogus "accrediting" bodies! Be sure to fully investigate before getting started. The US Department of Education will be your first stop to verify that they are recognized by them.
Kasandra,
Accreditation is even more! It is the pathway for recognition by USDOE to award Title IV funds.
Agreed. Being Accredited is very important to ensuring our facility maintains the best practices and is always conscience of how we can continue to improve to benefit our students.
I would like to know about the accrediting agencies and the cost and details. I'm not sure how to go about it. I have a lot of potenial students that request financial aide. However, I am just a small pet grooming academy, so if it's over the top expensive it might not be for me.
Francisco,
By becoming accredited by an agency recognized by the USDOE, the institution may apply for financial aid disbursement to their students.
I very much agree with your comment. The license granted by The Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education, should go hand to hand with the accreditation of institutions. Maybe we don't know the processes and reasons why this is it, however I felt very clearly that the injured are the students who does not always know the difference between the two.
I wonder why the requirements of licensing and accreditation are not made more uniform for schools. Accreditation is the area that seems to cause the most confusion among students.
Although voluntary to me it is very important. It validates who you are as an institution and the programs you offer will give your students the best chance at success!
When the institution has programs in the field of nursing, it needs to be accredited. If licenses are needed to gain employment after the program is completed, then the school accredidation is very important.
I think that accreditation is a formality, nothing else. I can not find logical that if a state agency that regulates education and lets you work as a university, depend on others to be accredited. But despite that accreditation is voluntary, I think every university should be accredited. It's something that for one thing or another, is necessary for good image of the institution.
Phoebe,
Accreditation is voluntary and expensive. It is a choice each school needs to make individually.
