Product Knowledge
It is very important that you understand your institution so that you know exactly what you are presenting to prospective students.
I have found that creating a binder with our current programs, core courses, and potential jobs has been very helpful.
I agree. You can not effectively help a potential student make an informed decision if you do not understand the product that you are speaking with them about.
Product knowledge for your institution, as well as your competition, can help you better understand a program and the industry for that program. having an understand of your competition can also help to improve your programs.
It is very important to know product knolwedge in order to give correct information to perspective students.
When we do our training here we have each admissions rep meet with all the program directors in order to better understand the curriculum and the carrers that students will be able to apply for. We also have them meet with each department leader including the library to best understand the resources that are available to the students. We also have the departments within the school come to the admissions meetings to update us on changes and refresh us on programs and also resources, rules etc per each department.
Knowing the Institution is important but there is more to product knowledge than the building the programs are contained in and the administrative and education staff that occupy that building. Each program should be studied at length - not only the program materials published by the school and the information contained in the catalog but the field itself that the student willbe entering into post graduation.
I agree. It's very important to know your product/program, and we must remember that we are helping people plan for their futures.
Product knowledge is key. You can't effectively direct someone to the right program if you don't know the product/program. Some prospective students aren't quite sure what they won't,so if you know your schools program and curriculum you will be able to guide and direct students to the program that could help them accomplish their goals.
Not only is it important for us as agents to know what our respective schools have to offer to students. It also helps to know what the other schools offer. Your school may not offer what an individual wants as a course of study. If you know what your competiton offers you can help that person reach their goal. The bottom line is that we help people get educated.
