Student services
As part of my own experience as a student, I found my spirits bolstered by the presence of a very strong student services departments.
A question for more seasoned agents: Outside of the realm of different activities (like holiday sales and student appreciation) is there any one example of how student services has affected your students?
Student services play a vital role in helping new students feel comfortible with the school and the process of enrolling.
I think student services is a little more well rounded than holiday sales and student appreciation (at least I feel it should be). Recognizing academic acheivements, helping operate student organizations and fostering community service should also be a part of the student services responsibilities and a part of the student culture. Bringing the students forward not only in knowledge but community growth and fostering that in students will help them be a well-rounded future employee. Does anyone else agree or is this too ambitious?
In my experience, Student Services provided guidence for both education and career paths.
In my experience, faculty or staff doing something out of the normal routine is often the best boost for a class of students. Bring in lunch, bring in a movie, a 30 minute break to go outside and take a walk, or even an in-classroom team building activity.
In my experience the mock interviews and resume writing has bolstered their confidence. Also, the Suites for Success helps them built self confidence in their business attire for coming interviews with prospective employers.
I think student services gives the students a sense of confidence that we can help our students.
