I do not use the sites myself. I know the Department Chairs keep in contact some of their students that way. In Admissions, we are in the fish bowl and communicating to students via Social Networks does not seem like a great idea.

Prospective students in some cases, are more likely to respond to a follow up request through Facebook, Twitter, etc. However, allowing the student to dictate the conversation only through the specific social media site, defeats the purpose of the student coming in to meet with you.

Social networking plays a big part with our school. We have signs up in our school asking the students to check us out on Fb. Also in our lobby we have a Fb update blog that gets updated weekly for prospective students to look at while they wait for admissions. It contains real life success stories that they can read and also follow as students complete their courses. Students also write about the staff and instructors. this helps put new students at ease that they are attending a great school and not to be affraid to make the big decision to enroll!

I agree - it is such a great tool for communication. We can post events and reach out to a large number of students (and potential students) with the click of a button.

It has also been helpful when we have someone show interest in our college through our website, but we can't reach them on the phone. Sometimes connecting with them through FaceBook they are more willing to respond.

I think social networking is a great way to keep students and prospects up to date and allow them to ask questions!

This is a huge benefit point for many schools as many young adults and even middle aged persons are using social networking in there day to day routine. This allow the schools to market to these people on a daily basis as an average person using facebook most likely logs on more than once a day.

Social Networks are a great way to get get the word out about our schools! I agree, I do not think admission reps should be friends with 'potential' or 'current' students. I think admission enrollments have increased with the help of Facebook, twitter, etc. Friends of 'current' students can see how much going back to school has helped & they may want that same impact on their life.

Social networks have made it easier for us to communicate with prospective students. No we do not have a marketing plan that includes the use of social networking sites.

I believe with big universities the social networking sites have helped the contact of the students stay in place a lot more than say with our school. Our school does not have a marketing plan that includes the use of social networking sites.
I think these sites help a lot with informing students of delays and events that are going on with the school - since most students are always on their phones w/ texting, facebook and twitter. This message gets relayed a lot quicker to them more as an email or phone message.

Socila networking has had a major effect on the way that students communicate. Our facilitites currently dont have a social media page, but we should.

none as of right now but this it would be beneficial for us to adapt one soon.

Social networking sites have become a huge focus for our school recently. We have a dedicated person who regularly updates and posts various important information to students. It has also been a great way to get feedback from students regarding their experience at our college.

Social networks are still subject to all regulations presented by the board. We do not currently have an apporved plan for dealing with social media communications. If a plan existed it would entail the guidelines of honest presentations set by the board.

The popularity of social networking sites such as facebook and twitter has affected communication by allowing us to be seen in more places than what we are used to. Are school does have a marketing plan in place.

The social networking sites are very important.Word of mouth is the most credible avenue to communicate as well as the most cost efficient.

We occasionally send out news of impending events etc. to those students who have specifically requested that we do so, and we have an "emergency notification system" that uses these media, but Admissions staff are not permitted to use these media for contact with prospective students. We use phones, and we use e-mail through our schools e-mail system only. Avoids problems...

No they do not. We are not allowed to use them to contact students.

it seems that most students only want to communicate through emails now

I agree to I believe that social networking is a great way to take your marketing to new heights you can put something on and it will be around the world in a matter of minutes.

Agree, Social networking has become a hugh part of our 21st century way of communicating. In order to stay in the loop one must be creative.
