We have a school blog with current information on fields that interest our students. We have been slow to adapt to social media, because of regulation concerns. Although it has a great deal of potential, it is something that we have not gone extensively into.
Our school launched their facebook and twitter site almost a year ago. Since then we did marketing campaigns linking radio and TV to our facebook and twitter site with a "give away" to increase "likes". Doing so, along with promoting term start dates and our website where prospects could request information did increase awareness and enrollments during these thought out marketing campaigns.
I agree. I believe it has a great impact in communicating with prospective students because it opens up a new medium of accessibilty and it provides a way to communicate with students more rapidly.
I think social networking is an excellent way to stay informed and stay connected to people. It's serves the purpose of helping and sharing ideas and keeping abreast of industry reseach..
I feel that is provides a source for students to gather and express the POV of the school good or bad. Working for an online school I always suggest to my new students to get to know your classmates by using the social media.
I dont believe we have plans to do so
My reps are not allowed to either. They are encouraged to not befriend students they have specifically helped get into class. I think it would cause some friction if they did. Students often want to point the finger at someone else if they are not successful as most people do and I think this just puts the rep in a tough spot if they are friends with them. The students are encouraged to email their rep using their company email to ensure it stays within the business context.
My school has not really used social media to recruit other than having the website plastered on about every page you go to on the internet. Our reps are strictly forbidden to use the name/likeness of the school on their pages and cannot dispay where they work promenantly on their page. Using social media to recruit directly through a rep or an official site is not on our radar but it should be. I think most big companies have a page--we are missing out.
Social media is a staple in our society now, whether we like it or not. Marketing departments for many businesses have begun to tap into this. For our industry with Facebook, I think having a company page is good for advertising the school and its features, posting events (orientations, college/career days, special speakers visiting, etc). Prospects and current students could 'like' the page and keep up-to-date, if they are into that.
Individual employees friending prospects and students may cross company and state policies in my company. I think approval and clear guidelines would have to be agreed upon if we were to go that route, and even then, it would be as someone else listed, a separate business account and not the employee's personal one. Seems like a lot to manage and monitor from upper level, though.
I think social networking is definitely a great way to reach students but also agree that it has to be done in a way that can't be misconstrued by students as to the purpose of the contact.
Yes social networking is becoming an affective way to communicate with prospective students. Yes our school does have plan and guidelines for social networking sites.
Our school does not provide for a social networking site. I think with the use of technology this could be a useful way to reach potential students.
I believe social networking is an excellent way of advertising. However, we are prohibited from friending students through facebook which I feel is wise.
We recently started a facebook page. We use it to share with people our students success and upcoming start dates!
I don't belong to any of these sites. I just don't understand them. Maybe it's my generation. I prefer they do 'social' - in a private setting, it's really not my concern as to the private nature of things.
I think it is a great way to get through to the younger generation especially. This is the way of communicating for the younger generation.
Social networking sites have a hugeg impact on communications within and outside the school. Students enjoy being able to post about their experiences and it's free advertising! We have a social media marketing director that handles all of those communications.
I agree that social networking provides a great opportunity to connect with students. However, we are not permitted to connect with students on a personal level - such as "friending" them on Facebook, which I think is a good policy.

I think social media is a great idea it is the new thing with adults and high school kids.
