Transfer of credits

This is very important for admissions representative to know their schools policy towards transfer of credits to another institution. Make sure your representatives and not misleading the students concerning this issue and they know exact information about transfer of credits.

I tell potential students that while it is possible to transfer credits to another institution, it is not typical and they should consider this in whatever their plan toward obtaining a degree is.

Completely agree..that could be a make or break it in the decision process... the more you know the better you are

In agree this very important to know the policy entirely. Prospective students and students ask this question on the daily. It's only right to disclose true policy and procedures.

I get a lot of questions regarding transfer of credits. At first I was a little uncertain as to how I should approach this question but I learned that it is most important to be up front with the student. I always give the student the opportunity to submit their transcripts to the Registrar to make sure that nothing will transfer over but I make sure to explain to them that most credits do not typically transfer over because of how our programs are designed.

We follow an FAQ about transfer of credits and what one can say in admissions in regards to the question. Our response is to be that it is up to the receiving institution. And that our academic department is the one to handle our internal evaluations. We need official transcripts to evaluate.

This can be confusing because there are not any hard and fast rules regarding transfer credits since it is up to the individual school. This can lead to some confusion for the prospective students. It is important not to mislead them when it comes to transfer credits.

If someone wants to go on afterwards and let's say get a masters, always make sure they research their options and call the college they are intersted in. This way the student will be able to see if their plan is possible.

I agee, I think it's always important to inform the prospetive student that there has to be an evautation of their credits by the receiving institution. This is info that should never be compromised.

Knowing and communicating the policy on transferability of credits is very important to a prospective student. Some students think that credits from years ago won't tranfer and are surprised to find that in some cases they do.
It's important not to mislead a student but at the same time encourasge them to send official transcripts for the registrar to evaluate.

At my school, we make sure to state our transferability of credits to each student, so as to be sure they are aware of what it is, as well as where it can be found.

It is unlikely that any credits earned at Itt Tech will be transferable to or excepted by an institution other than Itt tech inst. you can find more info on this in the student handbook.

and really it all depends on your registrar and what they will allow....the important thing is that it is never an ADA's job to discuss this, but the registrars.

I think transferbality of credits is very important to students therefore admissions representatives should be well aware and informed on this subject.

I agree it is important we are clear to potential students the fact that it is unlikely credits earned at our school will transfer to any other school.

Students who want to transfer credit are always eager to know what may transfer over, but I think it is best to let them know that is something that has to be looked at by someone who works in the area of transferring credits. I cannot tell them whether or not a credit will transfer.

I always try to stress to students that we are an occupational school, and the focus of their time with us is to find employment when they are finished and they shouldn't need to transfer credits to another institution. I ask why they intend to transfer credits elsewhere when they are done and use that as one of the many ways I evaluate whether a program is a good fit for a student.

Knowing the expectations of the student is what I feel is most important when talking on this subject. Figure out what their perceptions of transfering credits are and then without making them feel dumb, bring them to the truth of what transfering credits involves. If they feel that furthing their education beyond what your school can offer be clear and firm.

I feel that it is important to let the student know that, after a full disclosure about the institution and a tour, should they decide to apply for acceptance into the institution they will have the opportunity to meet with a school official in the appropriate department to have their previous coursework reviewed. This will occur based on the written policies in the school catalog and an academic determination by a school official authorized to do so. Some assessment testing may even be required if that is determined.

I try to get a feel as to how rigid the student may be about having a certain amount of credit granted for previous coursework. Some students are very reasonable and flexible in this regard. Some are rigid and insistent on having a fixed amount of credit granted, and are basing their decision to attend or not on what is granted. I feel that it is particularly important not to even imply to them that any courses will be accepted until the appropriate official determination has been made. This an area with students in which an admissions rep has to remain diplomatic but firm.

As regards to outward transferability of credits, I think that it is important to explain that it is up to the institution that the student wishes to transfer their courses to to determine how much credit will be granted. Also, that the institution from which the credits were earned has absolutely no say so. I also let them know that they will likely have to submit an official catalog from the outgoing institution for comparison of similarity of course descriptions and an official academic transcript or other documentation that is called for by the receiving institution.

I think that it is very important that a student knows that credits can be transferred in to a program however that the course taken must meet the current school course requirements that they are wanting credit for. This may me transcripts or other documents such as course outlines maybe required to determine that. But also if they are wanting to transfer to another school that it is up to them to seek approval or credit from past courses taken and that school will determine if they accept them or not based on their requirements.
