TRANSFERABILITY

WHAT ARE SOME REASONS A STUDENTS CREDITS MAY NOT TRANSFER?

Transferability of credits is usually evaluated by the what is learned in the course. If a school is more career focused then it can be difficult to transfer credit. The credits that the registrar look at have to usually be a C or above and also come from a school that is accredited.

At our school when a prospective student asks to transfer credits, we review the course and see if it is the same or similar to what we teach here. Depending on what is taught and the text book used we will make the determination. We sometimes allow the student to test out of the class if they're adamant they should be able to transfer the credits.

Since accreditation is voluntarily in some states, that could be a factor in determining whether some credits could be transferred. I am learning that there could be many factors that could affect the process.

The transfer of credits is based up on the course content not simply the name of the class. Some factors that are included are the passing grades, whether the course/college was on a quarter or semester system all of which the Dean and/or registrar makes that determination. Otherwords, it is up to the receiving college as to which credits are transferable.

I'm guessing accreditations of different schools and programs. What does everyone else know and/or think?
