When I am questioned about another institution, I will again state the benefits of our program, but let them know that their are a lot of things to consider when making this decision and encourage them to do their research.
I let students know that I can only speak about our school since I have not work at other schools and continue on by restating all of the things the students mentioned in the benefit and interest check that they liked about the school.
I suggest my students do their own research on other schools so they can make a well informed decisions on what school will be best for them.
I ask the students to do all their homework on other schools that they are considering to make sure that we are the correct choice for them.
I think its just best to show your school's great success. I stay away from discussing other schools.
I indicate that i am not familiar with the policies and procedures of another school. i then ask them what they are looking for and proceed to explain how the school that i represent can meet their needs.
Katherine,
Keeping the focus on the student and their needs is a fantastic way to approach this.

We are fortunate. Schools that teach what we do are far and few between. If someone is looking at another course of study, I suggest they research both fields and decide which is best for them.
As recommended in the module, discuss the strengths on your school’s programs and features that may be beneficial to the student. It is always important to understand the student’s needs in order to provide accurate information
I advise students that the most important thing when comparing schools is to figure out which one is the best fit. I never discuss an opinion on another school. I just refocus the student to think about what they need to be successful.
I agree with my peers, I bring the focus back on my institution. I let them know that "unfortunately I am not able to speak on other schools behalf".
any education is good education, you have to attend where you are comfortable
Most of the time students research other schools.i always stay positive about our School.and good things about other schools if they ask. not good to say anything bad about another school.
I make sure that I never say our school is better than any other school. I do let studets know that school is very important and if they are not sure what they want they should do some research. I also let them know that I can give them the information on our school. I would ask them what they were intersted in then I would tell them about our programs in that area.
I always want to make sure the student has done there homework as to the school and course to make sure they make an informed decision.
Provide all the information possible about our school and let the student research other schools on their own.
give them all the information on your school and be postive on what you have to offer them.
I agree. I always tell them to do there own research, and discuss positive things about us.
Stacie,
That is definitely the best approach...just keeping the focus on your school.

With every student that I meet with, I make sure that I never say our school is better than anywhere else. I inform them that there are many great schools out there and to do their research on their own time. Focusing on our school at that current moment is the most important, as that is the reason they are meeting with us.
