Your First Year as a CTE Teacher (Part 1) --> Developing an Understanding of CTE
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
I gained an understanding of CTE and what constitutes a high quality program. I also learned that there is the possibility for students to continue in post secondary school. I was surprised at the number of students who go on to post secondary education.
The framework seems to be the most important place to start when beginning to implement a CTE program. When that is nailed down, a teacher should be able to see a path forward for individual curriculum design and implementation.
I have a better understanding of the part CTE plays in promoting effective learning and making it possible for students to transition into post secondary education and the workplace. Who wouldn't be excited about the prospects of CTE? Wish it would have been in place when I was in high school.
CTE is a great option for students who don't want to go the traditional college route and just want a high paying career in the trades!
Prior to beginning this course, I had a basic understanding of the elements involved in course progression in career and technical programs. This course is helping me better understand evaluation of programs of study as we work to prepare students in building the skills necessary to flourish in their given fields of study.
The histroy of CTE is our agricultural heritage. We cant fully appreciate our comforts and conviences without looking back at the struggle it took to get there.
Essentials for CTE teachers is one that I increasingly take interest in. I've been teaching for almost 4 years and could have used more resources in the begining. I always teach the history of FFA and Land Grant Universities.
We have a cluster program at our high school. It is a great way for kids to begin to plan for future employment. The skills in our tool box are going to be beneficial reguardless of the position of employment.
CTE is the backbone of what kids are going to need in the workforce outside of the classroom. We do our best to make thes expierences real for eachother as we learn and pass through each class.
I learned about Pathways and the history of CTE. These programs have been developed to create the best outcomes for students starting careers and learning team building in technical education.
I am the product of a successful CTE expierence. I like to offer kids the options in learning that CTE has. More and more jobs are available in CTE than ever before.
I think iCTE is so important because it can help prepare students for future jobs.
As a healthcare professional and a former CTE high school student. I really appreciate the support that has been given to CTE programs to ensure that students have the resources necessary to provide opportunities for students to explore game changing career readiness skills
I learned how importaint CTE is for our country and how an early start makes all the difference. I also learned the history of CTE and its humble beginings.
As someone else posted I did not realize all that goes into CTE. I injoyed learning about the career clusters (that secondary/postsecondary have that much contact to make the career path seamless), and the high quality CTE framework
It was interesting that the beginning of this course put a lot of emphasis on how parents feel about the CTE program. I'd be interested to hear more about how teacher's who have implemented CTE courses in the classroom feel it has prepared their students for the future.
I have a better understanding of what CTE is about and I want to be able to have enogh knowledge to be of assistance to my students.
I hadn't realized how long CTE had been a part of the educational structure of this country, or how diverse the areas it covers.
The history of CTE is interesting; I am wondering about the origins of tracking as I have heard that early trade schools tracked students of color and immigrants into lower wage industries while middle class and wealthy whites were tracked into higher education.
I do think it is helpful to see how national, state, and local efforts contribute to CTE as a whole. This broad view of CTE as a national effort helps me feel like I am part of a much bigger community.
