I agree, John. It can be difficult to know what message is connecting with another person when feedback is delayed or lacking. It's great that you see the benefit of creating refined sentences to improve your connections. Another thing to consider in your written communication is how you might personalize it for each individiual. This can also help to increase you chance for connections. Good luck in your future communications, John.

I agree, face to face and phone communication seems to be more natural and easier simlpy because of the feedback from the person i am talking to. Emails, letters and messaging are more difficult based on the lack of instant feedback. Creating refined sentences and paragraphs that can be used over and over makes sense.

It's great that you recognize the opportunity for improving your communication, Amanda. When the majority of your conversations are occurring over the phone, you have to learn to adapt your methods to ensure your message is coming across in the way that it was meant to. I'm curious, what do you think you might do to ensure your directions are clear to the other person?

I work primarily over the phone and I see the opportunity to contstantly work on this skill. We learned in the module that 38% of communicating face to face in body language, so you have to think about when you don't have that type of commmunication it is much harder to be clear and make sure both parties are on the same page. I know taht I can continue to work on making directions more clearly.

Great awareness, Brittany! In an online environment, it is so important that you are able to effectively communicate your message via phone or emails. I'm sensing that there is a level of frustration that you and your students experience if the message is misconstrued in anyway, would that be an accurate statement? Being cognizant of what you might do to adapt to that situation is key - so making the choice to refine your emails is a great step! Another thing that you might find helpful is to add a check in after relaying information to make sure your student understood what was said before moving on. Do you think that might help?

Being that we are a 100% online school - communication by phone and email are essential to our operations. I believe my phone skills are very strong however, I have noticed that my emails can sometimes be misinterpreted or they are not read and students ask questions that have already been answered. I will begin to refine my emails and check to see if they can be misinterpreted before sending but how can one do a better job of making sure a student or potential student reads instructions?

One thing I would like to implement with our team is maybe a daily meeting. Even if it is only for 5 minutes in the morning or at the end of the day. This would allow us the time to reflect on events that have taken place in our department and discuss the outcomes, and future outcomes. Also, to discuss changes or just time to talk to each other face to face.

I need to check my written communication and refine it before sending it to anyone else. Maybe looking at it from someone else's perspective will help me to notice the tone that I am reflecting.

Interesting insight, Mishelle. Knowing that you feel confident in your ability to focus on another individual in face to face communication, what communication skills might you use to help you focus on the phone?

Technology, it can be a blessing and a curse, can't it? I appreciate your observation of how being busy can impact our face to face interactions. How might you improve your communication with your team at your busiest times?

It's amazing how technology is meant to help us communicate and it can sometimes limit our communication. I get the sense that you want your team to feel that they are important by making more of an effort to connect with them in different ways, even if you are busy. Would you say this is a fair statement, Jaida?

That's great awareness to have Samantha, especially with emails and texts being widely used to communicate. It sounds like you're confident in your ability to communicate effectively with others in person and on the telephone. How might you translate those skills to your emails and letters to express tone?

I need to improve on my telephone communication. When i am face to face with a student i am able to focus all my attention on them but when i am on the phone i can be easily distracted buy other things in the office.

We definitely run into this problem within our office as well. When we get busy we tend to do less face to face interaction and more emailing back and forth. We have to become more conscience of this as managers to help our teams develop better communication skills.

i am definitely going to work on my overall communication with my team. I ma alsways so busy, so often at times I tend to just shoot over a quick email, or call their extension, when they are only a few doors down. I am going to become more effective in all areas, and definitely practice utilizing the Communication formula

I will be working to develop my face to face body language/communication as well as my telephone communication skills. I think that I have a good foundation and background to start from, working in recruiting, but I would like to expand and grow these skills by being more mindful of my tone and body language.

Great awareness Ameer. Sometimes our attempts to be professional come across as cold and impersonal.

I will work on my voice tone for phone conversations. I have to adjust my style to the receiver so i don't come off as intimidating by trying to be too professional.
