Modeling positive behaviors and body language can be helpful in demonstrating appropriate behaviors at your school. Choosing to be a role model to students can be a powerful statement to your school and your students. What type of results do you think you'll see from making this kind of choice?

I believe that Modeling positive body language is more effective. I think that being a role model will grant better results

Great observation, Cinthia. Isn't it amazing how much our actions can contribute to a connection with another person? It sounds like you have found mirroring helpful in getting your students to feel comfortable and want to start to develop a relationship with you. Keep up the good work.

Mirrorring your students body language because it develops a sense of trust and you let them know you are just as interested in listening to what they have to say.

Great observation, Doreen. Mirrorin positve body language might be one way that you can help to set up positive expectations for your students. What are some of the other ways you ensure a positive interaction?

I feel modeling postive boby language puts the student also in a postive mood.

Interesting point Nora. What other benefits might you encounter by mirroring another person?

A-because you actually seen your expression, face to face

Great work Stephanie! Thanks for sharing your experiences. Keep it up.

Great point Josh. Mirroring is a great way to build rapport with the student and allows the student to feel safe.

It has really helped me to build rapport and to ensure that they keep that level of enthusiasm. People really seem to respond to it and I can relate better to them.

I have found mirroring to be a great way to put students at ease when you first start meeting with them. I see it as a way of setting a nice tone for whatever it is I am going to be discussing.

Thanks Stephanie. That is great insight. I love when you say, match their level of enthusiasm. By smiling, meeting the student where they are, and in their level of excitement, it will only further your rapport building. I wonder, how has this worked for you in the past?

Great idea Josh. Yes, mirroring is a great way to build rapport and get on the same level with the student. What have been the results when you have tried this with students?

I believe that mirroring the student's body language is much more effective. We don't want to come off as superior, judgemental, disintersted, etc. It is very helpful to mirror within reason so that the student feels comfortable and so that they can relate to you. This also matches their level of enthusiasm.

I think that mirroring a student's body language is more important in that doing so can break down walls and allow for communication to flow more freely.

Great awareness, Fred. Modeling can assist your communication efforts in a number of ways and also provides you an opportunity to demonstrate that you are listening to the student. I'm sure they appreciate your attention.

Modeling positive body language. The prospect will be more likely to respond in a similar fashion if they see you are truly listening and concerned about what she/or he has to day.

Awesome, Maria! It sounds to me like you try and match your students or create an atmosphere that helps them to feel comfortable and relax as you get to know one another. Keep up the good work!

it depends, If the students comes in, arms crossed, i tend to relax my body, and in no time, they mirror me.
If the students comes in and sits up towards me, i move forward too so they see that i am as engaged in the convo as they are
