I feel modeling postive body language. In the education world the people working are the role models. Students look up to us and our co-workers so it is important to set a standard of behavior.

Great insight Ania. Modeling that positive body language can have a great impact on your students. I'm curious, what happens when a student doesn't follow suit - meaning, they don't follow your example? Would you adjust to match them?

I believe you need to model new positive body language to show and teach positive attitude as oppose to mirroring negative body language.

Mirroing your students to help them feel more comfortable with you and their surroundings is a great way to start building rapport Michael. When you're developing a relationship, trust, a sincere desire to help and confidence in your ability to help your students do what's right by the student are critical elements. Could you share with me what you do in pacing and how you know when students are responding to this?

I feel mirroring initially is more important so that they feel i am like them and as we continue in the interview then I start pacing and modeling the body language I want them to follow. By building that type of rapport I can gain their trust and confidence in me doing the right things for them. Is this a good approach?

I think by using body language. Smiling, not crossing my arms, leaning in and looking them in the eye. Also, asking appropriate questions, without interrogating.

I would think mirroring someone’s body language too much may come off as rude or mocking. Also, if someone is exhibiting body language that is negative, mirroring that would send back a bad message. Modeling positive body language may show the other person that you’re open to what they’re saying (if you do it correctly) so I think that would be more effective.

Great point, Kate. If an individual is mirroring another's body language in an exaggerated way, it could definitely give a negative impression. Demonstrating you are open to what another individual is saying can go a long way to making a positive impression. How might you demonstrate that you are open to the message?

That's great, Mina. Modeling can be a powerful tool in connecting with others. What are some of the things that you model on a daily basis?

I agree modeling always works for me!

You're right Jaida, modeling positive behavior can have a powerful impact on your environment and the people in it. I'm curious, how do you model positive behavior for your staff and students?

I believe that modeling positive body language can be crucial to success in admissons. If you are promoting positive body languagem then that can bleed over to your surrounding environment. If others around you see the positivity, then that can create a positive atmosphere all around. If you mirror your students body language that can have a definite impact on the overall environment as well.

Working with students definitely gives you the opportunity to demonstrate and appropriate body language/behaviors in a number of situations. It sounds to me like you take advantage of opportunities that you have to make a positive impact on your students, Megan. How do your students typically respond to your body language?

I feel that modeling positive body language would be more effective communication with students. They need to see what positive body language looks like in the real world and from a professional adult. This will show the students what type of professional and positive body language that they will have to exemplify as they join the work force.

You're right Rina, modeling positive behaviors can help students understand how to handle situations in an appropriate and professional manner. Let's say you have a student who is exhibiting negative body language or behaviors, what might you do to help your student adapt their approach?

I believe modeling positive body language would be more effective when communicating. As a career school, we are to show students professionalism and appropriate behavior. This would show them we are positive regardless of the situation and we are showing them the appropriate reactions to specific situations.

You're right, Maricelly. Body language can make a huge impact on the message you or your prospective student are trying to convey. How do you use mirroring or modeling to help impact your communication in a positive way?

i THINK THAT MORE THAN HALF OF OUR IMPACT AS A SPEAKER DEPENDS UPON OUR BDY LANGUAGE

Dr Norris Thank you I could not agree more. This has really been a great experience.
