eliminate all distractions and biases. Also, not anticipate the answer and use more patience with talking to students and colleagues

For me becoming less thinking and more listening will improve my current listening skills. Letting the flow of the conversation will also allow for this to occur.

It sounds like you have a great idea of where to start, Caroline. Much success to you in your future interactions. Good luck!

I will keep you posted. I fully concur that listening , especially listening actively, is a key element that will help me build a positive relationship with the students. I will try my best to avoid being judgemental when I will listen to others. This attitude will help me respond appropriately to the students' needs.

Thanks for sharing Caroline. It sounds like you have a plan to move forward. Please keep us posted with your progress.

I will make sure that I really focus on the student needs. I will take the habit to repeat and rephrase the essential of what the student just said.

Thanks for sharing Jason. It sounds like you have a great awareness of some steps to take next. It does take practice. Let us know how it goes.

I believe I need to practice my listening skills.

I often find myself using internal listening as I formulate a response to what a student or parent is saying.

I need to make sure I listen to everyword and push away from level 1.

It sounds like you really care about your students and want to help them make an informed decision. Listening is a key skill here and your follow up idea is a great way to make sure all of their questions were answered.

That is great insight Middalia. When you are truly listening to the prospective student, you will be able to understand them and start to build a relationship with them.

I need to tune in more to what they are asking saying instead of what I think I am hearing. Listen to their wants needs and challenges instead of making them fit into our program.

I often become distracted with other thoughts in my mind of things that I have to make sure I cover with them before the end of our conversation. I will try to tune in more and to avoid all interruptions that are going through my mind. I have come to realize that as long as I am listening to the students and acknowledging their wants and needs I am trully trying to help and understand them verses just trying to push something on them becuase I feel that they are going to benenfit. I know we have a spill that we are required to put out to them and discuss with them but perhaps I can follow-up with an email or phone call to make sure I have touched on all points they need to know about the program or admission.

Awesome,Gary! So, if I'm hearing you correctly - it sounds like you're going to start using the 3 R's (repeat, rephrase, and reflect) with your students. Let me know how it goes and the impact this has on your listening skills. I have no doubt it will be positive!

I think that the repeating of what
I have heard will help a lot. It will cause me to increase my active listening skills and clarify what the student is saying. Just developing this one skill will be a tremendous help!

Great awareness, Monica! How do you think this will change your approach with students? More importantly, how do you think your students will respond to this?

This seems to be a common challenge for many admissions professionals. What specifically will you do to clear your filter with each student?

I need to not get distracted and start thinking about other things while people are talking. I get bored since I hear the same things from people over and over.

I need to listen to everything and not just what will benefit me.

Organization is a great skill to help you stay focused, Jany. It is hard to concentrate when you know that you have other students to attend to and deadlines looming. What areas of your work to you plan to organize first and how do you think this will help?

Organization is what i need to improve I want to listen everything but i notice that i have to much work to do and i want to do all at the same time.
