Great insights, Sismai. These are all important cues to consider when reading people. Keep up the good work.
I belive that a way you can read people better would be to look at their body language , their tone of voice , and if they're making eye contact with you.
Looking at body language is definitely one way of improving your ability to read people, Sismai. Isn't it amazing what a person's body language can say about your conversation without the words behind it? What are some of the cues you look for and what do they say to you?
Looking at body language.
Good insight, Magregory. It sounds like you recognize the importance of taking in as much information about the student as possible. On top of that, you'll also be listening carefully to the information you've gathered and ask questions to verify/clarify that you've recieved the message as intended by the student. Great approach!
The way that I will improve my ablility to read people better is to first understand that every little thing counts about a person. From what they wear, to how they talk, and down to the way they walk. Long story short, I have to pay closer attention to all that is going on with a student. I also must ask more question to verify information found during my reading of the person.
Wonderful observations. It takes patience to read people and a great deal of the conversation is expressed in the subtle cues offered by the individual across from you. Taking you time to read those cues and allow the individual to open up in their own time and way is key. Keep it up!
I would take my time. I would not only listen to the individual, but i would pick up on suttle cues that may be giving off.( i.e ankles being crossed, foot taping etc)
This lets me know that i have to find that motivating factor in order for that person to open up.
These are all great ways to help you improve your ability to read others, Antigone. I'm also picking up on the fact that you realize it's important to not rush building rapport. Keep up the great work.
I can improve my ability to read people better by honing in more on peoples' voice tone, their body language and learning how to better communicate by using the 5 stages of hierarchy. I'd like to say that I'm already pretty good with using the stages, I would just like to see myself actually knowing that I am using them without even knowing it. It is very important to slowly build rapport with people and the students because then they feel that you understand them and you know what they're going through.
Absolutely, Antonio. One of the best things about improving your communication skills is that you have the opportunity to practice anywhere at any time!
Practice is the only way to improve on this. You encounter individuals on a daily basis whether at work, home or the grocery store. These are perfect times to practice reading body language, voice tones, by engaging with people outside of your career it makes it easier when you get to the office.
You're right, Monica, body language can tell you a great deal about what another person is telling you. How do you plan on improving your ability to read body language?
Great idea, Kelly. Visual cues can give us so much information about what the person is really saying. How do you think this will help your relationships with students?
I can pay more attention to body language and visual cues.
I need to pay more attention to body language. It tell alot about a person I notice.
Paying attention to body language is an excellent way to improve your ability to read others. You also being a good listener, Alicia. I'm curious, how do good listening skills help you read people better?
The best way to improve the ability to read people is paying attention to the boby languages and being at good listener
Open ended questions are a great way to get your students talking about themselves, May. I'm curious, what specifically is it about open ended questions that helps you read the other person?
In my point of view an open-ended question is an strong way to help me to read people better.
