as a dean, the most frequest areas of the catalog are :
attendance policy
conduct related policies
i prepare my documents and or conversation topics prior to meeting students with these areas of concerns. we deal with this on an individual basis. our campus catalog is used daily
I usually talk about attendance policy.
Academic policies and SAP
Student Conduct is most frequently used in my department as well as attendance and make-up policy. I believe this is a very beneficial tool to utilize when such issues arise
Specific info about the Pharm Tech program ... hours, course, course objectives. I also reference the conduct catalog when i have issues.
Specific information about my program. Conduct. Accrediting bodies.
Attendance policy, code of conduct and the dress code to name a few.
I mostly use the start dates and course descriptions. We also post conduct and dress code policies in each classroom.
I am always referring to the policies on student conduct, which includes classroom conduct, profanity on campus, classroom and lab conduct, and computer and internet conduct. There have been MANY times that I have had to pull the catalog and refer to the language, so that I know that I am not contradicting what the catalog says.
I most frequently reference the course objectives int he school catalog along with the rules and regulations for the entrance test and policies for tardiness and absents.
attendance and conduct because that reflects on how well a person will do in their new career and how dedicated they are.
I access the attendance policy, academic policy, and dress code often for my job. It does come in handy when students have questions, concerns, or complaints about their grades or how they are dressed. I also review the appeal process with them if they still disagree.
Conduct, term description, dress code
Conduct & absence policy are the most frequent items I reference in my role. What makes my job more difficult is if they are not written clearly & measurably. Conduct would be hard to translate into addressing all the possibilities, & that I have less issue interpreting. However, absence policies need to be clearly defined, and subsequently followed by the appropriate staff.
Student dress code, attendance standards, as well as academic standards
The topics that I most frequently reference from the school catalog are: attendance policy, grading policy and code of conduct.
The most discussed topic in the schools catalog for me is always tuition costs. I think that number one concern of a student considering enrollment is, "how am I going to pay for this." There are so many misconceptions about financial aid and tuition is is important that they know all the costs up front, and have it in wiriting to take with them after a campus visit.
As an employee who works with those students re-enrolling after being withdrawn, I always encourage to re-read their catalogs, especially the sections on attendance policy.
The catalog is the best tool I have to give information to potential students. I highlight the index and every heading that keeps the student informed. School information, Admissions procedures, Student Services Addendum, Academic Information Academic Standards and Financial Information. The program section is where I get the student excited about their feild of study.
