The Placement Department positively impacts the Financial Aid Department. By assisting students with job placement, we are ensuring they will be able to start paying back their school loans because they will be employed. Placement Services can impact enrollments in a positive or negative light. If Placement Services has a low placement rate, it could prevent students from enrolling in our college. On the other hand, if Placement Services has a high placement rate it could increase the number of enrollments.

Placement Services can impact enrollment by increasing or decreasing the number of enrollments. If Placement Services has a high placement rate, more prospective students are likely to enroll versus a low placement rate that would detour prospective students from enrolling. Placement Services positively impacts Financial Aid by allowing graduates to pay back their loans once they obtain employment.

The impact of placement on every other aspect of the school is our mantra as well. Now it is important to measure the affect of placement on enrollment (increase in quality students?), on retention (increase in retention as a result of career services?) and of course an increase in hiring results. Have you thought of putting a career services person right in the admissions department? It's an interesting thought since prospective students care more about the job they will get than what's required in the course work. We are happy that you are servicing alumni. Do you have a separate alumni department? More schools are adding alumni services and seeing great results on all the other departments. Thanks, Susan

The Placement Department definitely impacts every other department in a positive way because when students are placed in their jobs, the other departments benefit. The retention rate is improved.

The enrollment in the school is really improved when placement rates are higher. All of the services that we offer in our placement department benefit our students and thus benefit the other departments. We offer services to both current students and alumni in different workshops such as resume writing, interview skills, online job search, job leads, ethics, etc. We also bring in employers for hiring events and career fairs at the university.

Can you tell us more about how placement impacts on your school and how you measure that? And your results to date and how you are doing things differently? Thanks

Absolutely. Placement impacts on the entire school. So it is important to have multiple strategies and long- and short-term plans for placement success. Ideally students are required to complete career services skills programs and get plenty of practice so they know how to search for jobs and have the confidence to get the job. Thanks, Susan

Correct. Placement is key to many aspects of the school.

yes because is the placement is really low then it will hard to get student so it will impact the entire school.

Hi Bonnie
Wow. Really extremely well put and that mirrors our opinions as well. Placement truly does impact on every department of the school. And that is a reason that it is important to measure the results of each department in relation to the initatives of the placement department. That is truly a challenge and we haven't seen it done effectively yet. But this does help to determine what Placement will do in relation to each department and specifically how career services will be integrated into admissions, education, student services, etc. In fact, that would be a great policies and procedures manual for placement. Specify exactly what happens in each department related to the job search and how each department impacts on student job search success. Thanks, Susan

As overwhelming as it may seem at the moment, the Placement department is the crux of the entire university. Without a firm and confident buy-in from the students who are attending school, the other departments will struggle in many ways. For instance, admissions needs to be able to tell potential students exactly what they are going to get from getting a specialized degree. For 99% of the potential students, they want to hear that they will recieve a career with stable job opportunities, room for growth, competitive pay, benefits, etc. For financial aid, the students will have more confidence that their money is going towards a cause that will positively impact their future. For academics/retention, having students who are sure of why they are in school because they are sure of what they can accomplish upon graduation is the key to keeping people in school.
Placement Services can impact enrollments by having concrete evidence that the choice the potential student is making to go to school will fulfill their career goals, bring them a desired income, and be sustainable for the foreseeable future.

You are so right. People want training because they want a job. That's why we think that the Placement Department should sit within the Admissions Department. Most applicants don't really care a lot about the course work. They just have to get through it. What they want to know is how are they going to gain the skills and confidence to search for the job and what is it going to be like in the workforce. That's why we believe that Placement and Career Services should be as prominent in the lives of students as the faculty. That's also why we believe in involving employers from the community plus your alumni. These folks can visit the school or offer job shadowing and more so students can see, experience, and feel what it is like to work before the first day on the job. Thanks, Susan

One of the most obvious impacts that the placement department has within the school is the admissions department. Students coming to school in the day and age are from all walks of life. Many are displaced workers and need security that they will be able to find a career after graduation. This is especially important to the reputation of the school.

Education can be reinforced by the placement department with professsionals from their field guest speaking in the classroom. Also, from consistant in-field information being passed on from both career services and education.

We agree. All departments need to be together and focused on the each student's success. Thanks, Susan

And we feel that everyone at the school should be thinking and talking about the world of work all the time. Susan

Sounds like you have a great program to develop the whole student. They are learning skills, confidence, the ability to relate and communicate with a variety of people, and more. Sounds like you truly have an open door policy. That's one of the opportunities offered by private career schools. Thanks, Susan

Yes, focusing on meeting the needs of the students is key for student success and placement. It takes a system and in our opinion - required placement and job search assignments. We feel that employment skills training is as important as any course offered. Thanks, Susan

Anthony,
It seems to me you have a great perspective & your school overall has a great system. Keeping the students at the center of the process really is key.
Ryan

The success of the school depends on the success of its students. All departments, therefore, are an intregal part of the process. My job starts when a potential student is introduced to me. I generally drop whatever I am doing to shake hands and make the individual feel welcome. They're given a brief intro to what I do, and I tell them I am looking forward to working with them. Thus, Admissions is directly affected. Of course, enrollment affects everyone else. Once enrolled, the instructors regularly refer to my department, and I interact with the students on a regular basis; they feel comfortable coming to me, often with the personal challenges they are facing. I'm there to keep their morale and confidence level up, a continual process through to job placement. This helps their performance in class. Thus, class effectiveness (results) are positively impacted. I also work closely with student services to provide another level of student support. So, the entire team works together for positive results.

Dana,
You are so right. It is so important that all parties within the school have a systems mentality & see how each area connects to the others to make the students' experiences great.
Ryan

Having worked in Admissions before Career Services has really made me see just how all departments in the school have to work together for a positive outcome. Most students come to school to better their lives and their futures, so having a career services department that performs well can help the student see potential and opportunity that comes with attending our school.
