Contacting the hiring managers at companies
I am beginning to grow our Career Services Department. I am trying to contact the hiring managers at local hospitals and clinics to build a relationship. Any suggestions on how to go about doing this?
Dr. Schulz,
I totally agree with you. You have to stay in touch with the community members to maximize the probability of turning your graduates into working professionals.
Thanks!
Amy,
Interesting experience. It is a challenge to locate the person who does the hiring in a company. Sometimes it is HR department, other people, the president, owner, or someone else. There are so many job titles! That's why we believe in a community outreach person and program. The job of at least one person from your school is to develop relationships with employers and companies who should be hiring your grads. Also developing contacts with professional and community organizations. It takes a lot of effort to keep connected with the community. You want everyone to see your school as THE source for training and staffing. Thanks, Susan

When I was making sales calls for the Staffing Agency I worked for, the question we always asked is: Is there anyone else you know in your organization that might benefit from our services.
I was always amazed at how many of them would connect me with another manager, who then in turn connected me with someone else.
Corey ,
Good question. Suggest you turn to your Alumni - every grad that ever graduated from your school. Assume even half are working and half were satisfied - make every effort to connect with them. By the way, MaxK has a course on Alumni Communities that includes every detail to make that happen. Ask all grads for the name of the hiring manager where they work and get permission to contact that person. Build relationships and ask them who they know in companies that don't yet hire your grads. Yes - this is a time consuming task. But imagine being able to connect with just 7 people a week. In a month or so that's a lot of hiring managers. Let us know how it goes. Susan
