We give our students an EOC survey. Our instructors also get a lot of direct feedback from the students. The students are also encouraged to fill out the comments section online at the end of each course.
Tina, does career services have a major student services component on your campus? Typically, I think of social events as a student services activity.
students cpmplete suveys after each term. Career services comes to classes to visit classes and sponsors small social events like ice cream to big quarterly events. Bulletin boards through campus offer services. Admissions and finanlial aid follow up.
We have a end of course survey that each student fills out. The students name is not on the survey which allows them to be slighly more open. These result are reviewed by our education managers and shared with the instructors.
Stephen, how well is the system working? How do you evaluate its success/usefulness?
Carlos, do you get the observations returned to you directly or do they go to someone else? Is there a discussion about the results and what to do next?
Administration, support staff and instructors all share in this effort. Students also are surveyed as to how well instruction, materials, and support were used.
We also have end of course surveys that address the course and instructor. Twice a year we have a survey where all departments are included.
This observations make a great impact on me since they are the one who makes me know if i need to improve in sore areas or not. This obsevations measure how satisfied the student is with the class and the instructor.
Has this been a useful tool for your professional development, Arthur? If not, why not?
Brenda, how often do the students use the suggestion box? Who is responsible for providing feedback on the suggestions? (Without a response students will quickly learn that you're not serious about the suggestions they have to offer)
Richard, what are the Keys To Success and how do they relate to your class?
We have a survey every 3 weeks that we ask the students to complete. This survey includes Teachers performance in regards to individual attention to students. Also includes Training equipment as well as the schools support to students outside of the class.
Well... Its one way of dealing with students that feel like their problems need to be heard. That is if they are willing to tell someone. Maybe their problem is with an instructor. They can go to the EM without any backlash.
The scale does not change with each course. There is an understanding that each couse is different, and the degree of diffculty changes the retention, but the scale is still the same. Not much mentoring for the Instructors, but we do have access to training programs, such as this one, which has been made manditory by the recent retention rates.
WE have student surveys that are given after every quarter along with meeting with myself and other program directors to ensure things are going well. We also offer suggestion boxes.
Reinforce the Keys To Success Lesson during orientation and with the beginners classes.
And how have these surveys impacted your job performance, Joe? Have the results been useful to you? If not, why do you do the surveys?
Could you share an examples of the keys to success, Richard? How much time passes from orientation until these keys are re-introduced?
In my experience, satisfied students are willing to refer others to the program. Do any of you use referral rates as a measure of student satisfaction?
