Student Committment

I have found that most students are comitted to their education, they do not know how to deal with the issues of life. They believe they can't focus on too many things at one time. Some of them do need to drop out for a short time frame. I think that the instructors tend to go out of their way to help the students stay in school and I commend them for that.

Hi Gale,

I agree that we as instructors need to reach out to our students and try to keep them in class, but there are definitely times when it is good for a student to take some time off. If they are truly unable to complete a class due to medical emergencies or other family issues, then sometimes taking a semester off is necessary. I have a friend who began college, and then her 10 year old son was diagnosed with leukemia. She, obviously, had to drop out for a while. I don't think any instructors, regardless of how good they were, could have salvaged that for her. She will go back as soon as things have stabilized, but sometimes we need to understand that we can't save 100%. Life happens.

Thanks,
Kate

I agree Gale, many instructors go out of their way to help students. Not just to stay in school, but in all aspects of life. Many students do not have sufficient amount of role models. It is our responsibility to fill that gap.
