Interesting and Motivating
Remind your students of there career goals and keep the course you teach interesting and motivation will followe.
i wil stop sometimes during a lecture get them off topic for 5 mins or so to reset their brain then get back to what we were talking about it seems to work well
Boredom is the enemy. Anything that you can do to make your class fun and enjoyable will help with retention.
Keith, could you share some examples of an energetic atmosphere? Are you talking about within the classroom or the institution as a whole?
Who's responsible for reinventing the class? Doesn't each instructor have the latitude to manage their own material and how it's presented? I understand that there has to be a common list of competency for instructors teaching the same course, but shouldn't each one have the ability to choose the method for getting to that end?
I think that an energetic atmosphere is essential to or structure, and gives us an edge over other institutes, we teach what they want in a way that they want it.
I believe that if you can keep an energetic atmosphere then ultimatly it will be difficult to loose there interest
You have to keep reinventing the class, if not the instructors will get bored teaching the same thing over and over. How do we expect the students to be motivated if we're not. Students can sense on day one if the instrutor is motivated or not.
We have the latitude to make adjustments on the to cover the diversity of our classes. This keeps all focused and motivated.
Yes! we do change the course material, it all depends upon the calibre of the students. (I teach custom metal classes). We often take it to the next level for the advanced students this way we keep the student focused and motivated.
How often do you change your course material, Clive? Do you do collaborate with any other faculty members to integrate multiple concepts into your classwork?
einstein's definition comes to mind here.
nothing will change if new initiatives aren't introduced, so keeping it interesting will bring motivation.
