Spend more time making sure the students are satisified with their course.
Give each student a face to face meeting to discuss their ideas and feelings on he classes.
Make my classes more engaging to the students. Get them EXCITED!
1. Once the student is in school let them know
that on all levels of the faculty there is
someone they can talk to about any issues
they may have.
2. As soon as you see that a student seems to be
have a change in mood or attitute than they
usually have just casually go up to them and
start up a conversation just to see how they
are doing.
3. If or when they let you know there is a
problem let them know that it can be worked
through and that they can always count on
someone here to help them out as much as they
possibly can.
during orentation stress the importance of being here
talking to the student individually
making sure student understand the importance of retention
1. meet with our retention coordinator to finish the final stages of our student government or student council.
2. suggest to the school powers to retain or hire an in-house counselor.
3. re-train all faculty through our term inservice meetings on many of the topics discussed in this module.
1)Bring members of the school's administrative team into the class to re-introduce themselves and reiterate their desire for each student to succeed.
2)Have each student in my classes write a mission/goal statement and the steps they will take to make thier goal come true.
3)Make contact with, and meet, in-person, with any student who misses two or more days of class.
Keep our retention board up to date so staff and instructors can visually see where any issues are.
Add retention updates to our weekly faculty meetings.
Get more involved in the exit interviews.

Establish a dental club
Establish a newsletter
Have suggestion box on my desk
1. I will talk to our director about the possibility of a student mentoring program.
2. I will develop online surveys for my students to take throughout the course.
3. I will have an open discussion with my students about how to better meet their needs, so that they can be successful in their career.
The first step I will take is to improve communication. I am going to impliment more meetings that focus on cohesivness and student conerns. I also feel that many of our students are lacking important skills that are necessary for success. I will introduce seminars that allow students to gain information on how to develop better study habits and life skills that may have not been taught previously. I am also going to implement programs that allow the students to express their opinions and also allow them to have a voice. I think the suggestion box is a great way to allow the students to express changes they feel need to be made or to even recognize students who are making differences for their fellow classmates.
I work at a career training school and am having difficulty putting activities that are both fun and educational. Any ideas will be much appreciated.
1) We recently implemented a calling strategy in order to talk with the student body. We will be monitoring the effects of our "Courtesy Call" campaign that was put together. The idea is to ensure all students are progressing through their academic plan with minimal hiccups.
2) I will increase the communication with the faculty and set expectations that the college has for them as role models. The instructors are the first line of defense and they need to know what is expected of them.
3) We will increase the events for students in order to create more social fabric between themselves and the college.
1. Make sure I follow-up on students that are stuggling that are not specifically in my class at the time.
2. Send-out an e-mail before we go on break to my next class, welcoming them.
3. Encourage the students to participate in the activities that are organized when we get back from our July break. After a vacation, some come back feeling unmotivated and disconnected. Fun activities are always planned when we get back to help get them jazzed again and make them feel like they are part of something great.
Have you seen a change in results after changing your trigger time on the LDA report?
Running attendance reports daily looking at each absent student and contacting them.
Currently we run an LDA report (Last Day of Attendance) looking for students who are 2 weeks out. This has now been changed to look for students who are 1 week out.
Instructors now need to inform the Program Dean on a weekly basis if any students are failing the class.
As a new faculty member at my institution, I need to find out what are the specific services that are offered to our students. Therefore, when I return to work I will meet with the chair of the Student Services and find out what services the department offers our students. Then I will keep names and numbers handy so I can give the information to my students when they need it.
I will also suggest that our department place a suggestion box within our department to get more specific feedback from our students.
As an instructor, I will:
1) Work to improve class content
2) Improve class organizational stuctures
3) Try daily to "connect" with students
Work with students to help set goals.
Work with admissions to help make student feel important and valued.
Work with instructors to help identify when students are in need of help.
What do you do if your advisees don't respond to your emails? It's a positive gesture to reach out to them, but how do you interpret their failure to respond? No problems? Disinterest? Unwillingness to engage?
Sounds like this could be a powerful tool. Do many of your colleagues use it too? What sort of topics do you survey? Do you share the results with your students?
Have you had any technical problems?
