Retention
I believe that retention is everybody's job not just the instructors. It seems that the instructor is the only one that seems to get in trouble with retention. I think that is so unfair.
Gale, I am 100% with you. Retention is everyone's job - instructors, admission rep, student services, dean and campus president - a simple "hi, how is everything?" when meeting a student in the hallway; a simple visit in the classroom to say hello to the students - could mean a lot.

We also use Campuw Vue to manage notes for our students. So everyone know what is going on from Admission to placements.
John, can you log-in from a remote site, like your home using your personal computer? Making an unpopular task more difficult to do is a bad procedure.
Campus Vue can be an administrative tool but the personal touch far exceeds the notes in campus. We utilize campus vue but it is very time consuming because the faculty do not have individulized computers, we use roaming profiles, so logging in and out eats into our limited resource (time).
Indeed, Kevin. What part can you play in involving others in the effort?
I believe we as instructors have a huge part of this, but I also believe that everyone is part of it.
I hope that there is more to this story, Carleton. Students shouldn't simply be passed on without mastering the course competencies.
I would agree. I was reprimended once because i didn't pass a student that only showed up half of the semester - and didn't have passing grades.
Retention is the single parameter can be considered first.
Hello,
We use CampusVue to manage notes for students. Administrators have access and faculty have enough access to enter comments for students.
Alicia , what system do you use for notes about student performance? How is access to this information managed?
I agree with you. Everyone should be involved with retention. Every department or person, at many times has information about students but fails to share. Where I work, we can place notes in the system. At our meetings, when we print it out the list with comments and discuss. If a situation is urgent, staff f members are urged to bring it to our attention immediately.
It's certainly a group effort to contend with such a daunting task. I agree that the burden shouldn't weigh entirely on one ingredient in the whole melting pot that is the academic community.
