Dress code is discussed at Orientation so that students will know what the expectations are in the program. Dress code is further discussed in the classes so students can understand that in many of their career field, they will be required to be in dress code daily. They will began to get in the practice of wearing their uniform.

in some collages dress codes are null but in trade schools you can exspect to have to up hold the rules of a dress codes, there will always be some student that when this is push at them they will try and fight it and some will think it is unacceptable for the school to empliment a dress code because they feel that they are paying big money and they should be able to dress anyway they wish.

It's a key point in the students' preparation for their future professional life. When having a job interview, the first impression will remain in the employer mind and in some way could influence the decision.

At our college the dress code must be strictly adhered to. It prepares students for the real world and what to expect in their careers. It also teaches discipline.

you are absolutely correct i tell my student the same

I also think that the dress code is critical and could be dealt with at orientation so that when students arrive for their first day of class. They know , what is required of them.

Dress codes and standards are very important to train the students what is acceptable in the work place. However we should not abuse that power and impose our opinions on what they must wear. Who really cares in the industry what color socks or undershirt the student wears. When does the dress code stop.

Hello Larry,
I totally agree, This is one of those issues that i try to make understand from the very beguining of the class session, today's customers are very educadeed and they demand the very best that we can offer and more often than not the first impression is the way we are dressed professionally, its a good ice breaker and it gives the customer sence of security that the staff is knowledgeable.

I always remind them that there isn't a second chance for a first impression.

In a competitive market job, it is important to dress professionally because is the first impression for the interviewer.

I agree with that. When dressing in a professional way, people will be taken more seriously at the time to look for a job.

student do need to realize the importance of following the dress code. They should understand that it promotes professionalism.

The standards should be set in orientation and hammered home. Follow the dress code and other rules or send them home for the day. After it hits them hard in the wallet they may see how the real world works.

Excellent point. Many years ago, there was a standard class on this very thing...dress, business lunch manners, etc. Students don't get that information much any more and it is so important in building your credibility as a professional.

Here the Student is given a success guide. Inside is listed rules and guide line. Of which dress code is listed. It seems that the student just doesn't care. That they don't believe that the guide line is there for a purpose. In the industry that I work in, the individual will be highly visable as in the past they were not. I try to convey to my students this. That how they dress is in part a reflextion on them as a person and their work. I let them know that by presenting yourself in a professional manner and dressing in the same manner will project that to the customer/employer. We are here not only to instruct, but as well, instill good work habits as well as knowledge.

My students ask me all the time about the uniforms. I tell them would you rather dress like this here and if you go somewhere in the feild you have to dress the same way or dress like a bum but when you get to a shop then dress nice. they usually understand why after i explain it in that manor.

I agree with Trevor, instructors need to be realistic, but with the understanding that the schools standards are not going to be able same as the industry, but thet will be close. as long as students and instructor understand this.

Most do not realize that in the work place they will be required to dress in a partictular mannor.

The classroom is life practice, and it should be as real world as possible.

It starts at the front door and should be followed throught an entire institute.
