The key is to have relationships. Friends help,,, but think of relationships for trust reasons.

I agree with Revekka, to keep students involved in school have activates that are fun and social, no matter your age, its always nice to have friends in school. Most of the students who attend our school are from out of state so the staff and friends are like family away from home.
Excellent. Retention is the business of all.

Retention at the school involves every associate that is employeed. But it should not stop there, the clinical sites, externship sites as well as other students are also a huge part of student retention. We must make sure we are signing contracts with sites that are looking for future employees, not just free labor. This will bring excitement to the school, program and lead to stronger retention
Graduation parties, local holiday celebrations, end of the term award ceremony, student government associations, group clubs, and infield mentoring groups.
Student Appreciation Week/Day

Programmatic Clubs
Makes all the difference in the world. A relationship equates to trust.

Improving school involvement really helps keep the students focused and motivated. I think one great idea is to enter local competitions as a school or as individual groups. Another idea would be to set up a competition within the school and get the students to work in groups. The winner gets an award and the competiton pieces can be displayed in the school or donated to a great local charity.

As a instructor, I find it very important to get involved with school activities. As liason for the honor students I encourage the students to get involved with all the community activities such as Walk for the Diabetes, Taste of the NFL, food shows, open houses, chef demos, etc. this really gets the students blood flowing and also is a great way for them to network.

By allowing students to contribute to the School's activities, we are encouraging them to excel. Letting them contribute to events such as commencement, convocation, holidays, etc. allows them to become part of the team and to demonstrate their talents. This improves the School and the students.
more variety of clubs
competitions involving rival schools
general assemblies with guest speakers
field trips
Students in my school often participate in voluntary activities. I watch for these opportunities and include them in my teaching to increase retention and ongoing attachment to the school by the students.
Well we are a motorcycle school, so I think we should sponser more motorcycle related events. Nationally we could co-sponser everything from racing events to bike ralleys... Locally to keep the students already enrolled in school we could sponser or host events that create a feeling of soliderity and keep our students interested in motorcycles
School involvement activities that can be implemented at Le Cordon Bleu to increase student retention could be:
1. Plant a school garden and have cohorts take turns caring for it
2. Advertise various charity events around town and reward teams of students for volunteering.
3. Have semesterly or quarterly assemblies where students are recognized for their achievements or advised about opportunities
4. Invite guest speakers quarterly to encourage students.
5. Offer free workshops on time management, financial aid/ personal finances/ public transportation assistnace/ local childcare/ emotional health facilities
6. Provide a hotline for other personal issues.
We have created some clubs in the school managed by the instructors to involve the students.
It brings a lot of motivation in the student community as well as it challenges the talent of the students.
by doing this we maximize the retention!
Awesome. This is so important. Link to careers all you can.

We can have more interaction between the advisors and their students, for example, they can send out personal birthday emails or congratulation emails on things done well.
We can have pot lucks in some of our classes, students seem to like this.
We can have a social event each quarter during which students can interact with each other.
A few ideas I have for involvement activities at the school would be to award a student of the month. Get the faculty to vote who they feel has shined and deserves recognition.
Also planning fun activities with the students off campus like going bowling or doing karaoke. Maybe a game night at the school or maybe a trip to the movie theater would be fun way to integrate the students and make them feel more like a family.
