working together

Working together as a whole is always going to make the school as a whole a much better place to work

Keeyon,

How do your Enrollment and Academic teams work together before a student starts school? After?

Jeffrey Schillinger

At my school all departments work hand in hand with one another to ensure everything is running smoothly. The admissions offices works closely with financial aid to get students enrolled and sell as working with the Office of Student Services to ensure students have the resources they need to resolve any type life issues that may prevent them from coming to class everyday or graduating.

Working together is always a good thing. Instructors should support one another and should not say negative things about other instructors in the presence of the students. It would be very unprofessional to do so.

Maryolaine,

What are some of the specific ways your campus involves other departments, like finance or enrollment, in the retention process?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I agree so much getting the team involved and mentoring with the proper coaching and motivation can help the team focus, engage think positive and believe in positive results.

Angie,

There are times when it seems some departments of a career college have conflicting goals. For example, Enrollment may be more inclined to take a chance on an "iffy" student than might academics. There may be a student who will present a placement challenge for Career Services when she graduates. How does your college adress these types of issues?

Jeffrey Schillinger

Totally agree with you Sabrina. keeping in mind the overall goal will help us create a more enjoyable work environment where creative solutions will propel the company towards a more successful outcome.

Kathleen,

The team approach is the way to go. Working closely with Enrollment is a good way to ensure potential students get an accurate description of what goes on in academics. When the pictures match, students tend to retain.

Jeffrey Schillinger

The admissions team may talk about my course objectives and bring in a potential student to observe the instruction in my classroom. In addition, I network closely with career services for internship programs that I think are relevant to my students needs.

Yes Ms Lairlyn, you are absolutely right about working together. We accomplish more and we become a better team. We learn how to work with one another efficiently. The outcome is a great place to work because we create a better environment!!!

I totally agree with this. There is no I in Team. It is very important for everyone to work toward the same goals. If even 1 person stands out that can do alot of damage to the goal at hand.

Great teamwork equals great outcome a great place to work.

Sarah,

The career college business sometimes seems like departments have conflicting goals. Academics wants to grauate all students, even the once who may be a challenge to place for career services. Financial aid wants to keep down bad debt by sometimes suspending students who arebehind on payments while academics would like to give the student additional chances. How are these "disagreements" addressed at you school?

Jeffrey Schillinger

When you work together as a whole no on is left out of the loop. To better serve the students everyone has to be on the same page no one department is better or more important than the other as the saying goes "their is no I in team".

Doris,

My former boss did many team building events. I did really not see the importance to the members of the team until I took over the department when he retired and held them less often. I have found a compromise by allowing memn=bers of the team to do the planning.

Jeffrey Schillinger

I agree, at our campus all of the departments get together often for food pantries for the students, award ceremonies, Christmas, thanksgiving, etc...

Sabrina,

What are some ways other departments in your school "work together" with your academic team?
