When I receive a new group of students I always set my expectations from the beginning. I take students into the operating rooms at different hospitals. I emphasize professional behavior at all times. I find that students who know what the expectations are for their own behavior in the O.R. environment helps to establish boundaries in the hopes they will not approach them. It is better to start out strong and ease up when they understand these expectations. If you start out easy and then try to get stronger after something happens it is already too late.
