EL104

Students are able to learn best online when they are familiar with the different online tools that are available.

EL102

The best practice for dealing with noisy, disruptive, difficult online student is to follow the guidelines of the College.

A Great Refresher Course!

This was a very helpful course to me because it reminded me of some things I learned at a conference a few years ago that I have not yet implemented.  This course has nudged me to start incorporating more positive feedback, to offer peer assessments for online learners, to add an assessment at the beginning of the course to gauge students' knowledge, and also to get a variety of evaluations on the structure of my course.

Reflection

This course Online Teaching Techniques has provided me the foundation to incorporate e-learning, during this time where remote learning is required. I believe this will guide me on how to provide an effective learning environment for my students.

EL 103 Teaching on-Line

The training moduless were very helpful and informative. I feel this will help me and my organization in our journey of On-line teaching.

Putting it into practice

After completing 102, it feels as though the most important component is to work on effective relationships with students. When developing and planning a course, I plan to really consider indiviuals in the course and their needs and expectations in order to help deliver the best content possible.

To ensure this, I will develop a by module plan with all expectations, questions, and discussion elements to help integrate individuals into the learning.

CTE ONLINE REMOTE LEARNING

The training modules are so effective. I can definitely use these strategies in my remote learning.

Consistency Is Key

In this module, I learned that it's important to be consistent as you develop your modules.  This will help students to be successful and learn quicker how to progress through the modules.  I also learned the importance of having an objects database repository to store files, documents, images that you can use and which will cut down on the amount of time it takes to build your modules.

Distance Learning in Secondary CTE Health Science Classes

As a teacher and Registered Nurse Industry Professional,  I was quite surprised after my first week with distance learning to realize that distance learning education did work better for some students.  Although some students do work better with a face-to-face course style of teaching, I have students that were struggling with completing assignments or passing a quiz who to my surprise are now some of my first to complete the coursework. I feel that there definitely an advantage in using an online format to deliver instructional knowledge.  My CTE students seem to appreciate the convenience of online instructional coursework which… >>>

Challenges

I think my biggest challege with online teaching will be engaging large classes. I can see how many of these approaches work well with smaller classes but with 50-60 students it will be more difficult.

EL103

The course allowed me to learn new material, reinforce material I was not sure of, and update myself on information i knew but had stopped using. it is a great course for new learners and experienced. Continious updates, and refreshers are important.

Communication

My students seem to appreciate the fact that I have given them a phone number that they can call me with.

Dialog with online instructor.

I developed a close relationship with an online instructor in college.  She offered to write me a letter of recommendation to teach at the University after graduation.  She was very helpful and had a very successful online Project Management program.  She opened a number of doors for me in the greater Tacoma/Seattle area.  I learned a lot from her.

Online Classroom

Good Afternoon, The online classroom needs to be organized and transparent. The students should be able to navigate through the assignments with ease. Feedback and evaluation ius crucial and ongoing. Ty

Teaching Online

It is very important to know how students will learn in this environment. Try to place yourself in your students shoes realizing that although this technology may not be new to them, it is something they probably never used before to attend school. Some may have more experience than others and know ing the 6 learning styles: Avoidant, Competitive, Dependent, Collaborative, Participant, and Independent can help the student and teacher utilize online learning to its best [potential.

Best Practices

I try and place myself in the shoes of the student. I remeber the challenges I faced and still face, and I know students are going thru the same challenges and more. Technology is coming at them fast and hard. Expectations are to finish quickly, it's at ther finger tips but at the same time, they also have to deal with the daily challenges of life. Sometimes this technological assault is too much for them to handle, and they can zone out into their apps, music, chat rooms, etc... Be compassionate!!! Our pace and lack of technology, allowed us to… >>>

FAQs is a Great Idea

I'm definitely going to use the idea of giving students an opportuniy to answer each others questions before I do.

I can post on Google Classroom a FAQ section for each assignment or students can just post Questions to the stream.  Right now I am offering Zoom meetings for any 1-on-1 tutorials but was spending a lot of time with 1 or 2 out of 40 students.  So, that means 38 students know how to do what these few don't, or atleast I can assume.  So, if I give students extra credit for answering other students questions, then it saves… >>>

We will give 1 hour lecture through Zoom

We will give 1 hour lecture through Zoom. Then students will do online activities.  for 2 hours. Finally they will do Kahoot.

I'ts not a good idea to show all the information in a LMS and other course delivery software at once.

For the instructor its a very good idea to have all the assignments, posts and other course material online at once but if its all visibile to the students it can get overwhemling and diffcult to navigate.  It's also best if the more recent material appears at the top of the page.  Some platforms put the most recent material at the bottom.  This can be difficul to navigate.  Ideally each student should be able to structure their screens and portals in a way that's easy for them to navigate unfortunately this is not always the case.  It can be sometimes… >>>

Wisdom in Online

I teach Practical Nurse and due to the unforeseen closure of schools I had to result in Distant Learning. Although I am familiar with online instructions my students were not. I found a LMS that was free to teacher called Canvas. I am able to complete all the tasks I learned in EL 102. My students thought 50% were not comfortable with online learning. I found through my portal Zoom and off I went. Through trial and error mastering Zoom. I reassured my students that I am preparing them for the future. We are in this together.
