Deidre, I would like to address students setting realistic career goals. The main reason for the Program Integrity rules was to ensure that students were informed regarding the program, it's cost, graduation rates and employment opportunities. As we have moved forward with these rules it seems that students are becoming more educated and involved in their own career goals. The fact that your department is helping reinforce the goals that admissions has laid the ground work for creates a powerful synergy. Cindy Bryant

Eric, It is good to have you in the classroom to help direct your students to resolve their issues. Cindy Bryant

Samrane, Gaining a student's trust is no easy feat. The best way to do this is to set that good example that you mentioned. The best way to do this is to comply with the policies and procedures and treat everyone equally. Cindy Bryant

Joseph, It wanted to point out one of your statements regarding student complaints..."I always communicate to the director of education directly to ensure it is handled professionally and there is no retribution"...the key to resolution is communication. You are headed in the right direction. Cindy Bryant

Joseph, I believe that we have learned that sensationalism sells the hard way. The Harkin Hearings were a perfect example, case in point, the original report was riddled with inaccuracies however the retractions were handled with quiet subtlety. Cindy Bryant

Samrane, Misrepresentation can occur intentionally or unintentionally. Sometimes it is impossible to be 100% sure that you are giving the correct response. I would recommend that you always leave the student with "While I believe this is the correct answer I would feel better if we confirm this with the department head." This type of statement allows a margin for error. Cindy Bryant

Mary, It sounds as if you have a three prong approach to exit counseling. This is an excellent strategy which allows you to approach students with different learning styles. Cindy Bryant
Mary, Referrals can be very easy to come by as long as the institution is doing everything possible to meet student expectations. Cindy Bryant

Mary, Having a standardized process for resolving student complaints is necessary, even though some students do not want to follow the chain is is important to redirect them back to the policy to ensure that they are being heard. Another reason to have everyone follow the policy is to prevent any hint of favoritism. Cindy Bryant
