About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Landis, Like your ideas for expanding your professional expertise as an educator. All them will expand your knowledge base as well as your expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MICHAEL, What are some examples of courses you would take? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Landis, I like the way you blend both professionalism as an educator with professionalism of an expert in the field. This way your students get to see you as a dedicated instructor that is well prepared to teach and also as a professional that knows how to help them become professionals in their own right. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fernanda, Visualization is a powerful way to see connections and graphic organizers greatly facilitate that just as you say. It helps students to see and make the needed connections between course content and application. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Henry, Yes it does. This is the human factor in teaching. They need to see that we value them as human beings and we are there to support their success if they are willing to put forth the needed effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jaclyn, This is such an important part of the teaching/learning process. The more examples you can provide the better because students will then see how applications can be made of the content and skills as well as the relevancy of why certain content is be taught. The more connections between the course content and the real world the students can make the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ryan, This is so important because you do not want to shock the students when the enter the workplace but ease them into the setting through experiences and settings that replicate what they will encounter when they are working. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MICHAEL, What are some ways you do this with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jaclyn, You make a good point because instructional style is a work in progress for all of us. We have to be able to adjust to the content, our students, circumstances and dynamics. By doing so we will be able to keep the attention of our students and move them forward in their learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. So the more instructors can do both the more engaged students will be and as a result their retention of the content will be increased. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
