About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kenneth, I like you like to use all the resources I have available. When I have experienced students in my classes I use them much like you do. They are appreciate the opportunity and the other students get some additional support beyond what I can provide. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Benjamin, Glad this information was of help to you. I am excited for you and the impact you are going to have on the lives of your students as you continue your teaching career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Mine as well. I love going into a new class and learning about what life experiences my students are bringing in and that I get to learn about. We have a lot of fun with our introductions and ice breakers so the class gets off to good start with everyone feeling comfortable with each other. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to your challenges of being a night instructor. Boredom and fatigue are both challenges with night students. You do have to keep doing an assessment of their moods and interest so you can make adjustments as needed so they will remain engaged in the class. Stories from the field, like the one you shared in this forum are great ways to get their interest and show them how the content can be applied. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, Good way of addressing how the learning environment needs to adjust to the students and the ebb and flow of the class. By doing so the students will not lose their way in the learning process but stay focused on the content being offered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Yes it is. They need to get this understanding right from the beginning of the course so they can focus on meeting the requirements rather than worrying about what the instructor wants them to do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, You are such a rich resource for your students since you have done so much in your field and are now bringing that experience to the classroom. This increases the value of the course content to the students since they know you are offering them content that has been proven in the field and is relevant. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dianne, Great approach. You are giving them a lot of tools they can use to be more effective in their approach to solving problems and thinking situations through. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruthie, Like your definition and how it plays into decision making and problem solving. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dianne, Thanks for the additional perspective because it expands our thinking in relation to the human factor in learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
