Activity

Stephanie, thanks for sharing this challenge. It sounds like you will use the Feel, Felt, Found technique to help build rapport with the student and also let them know that they are not alone in their feelings. Let us know how that works. Dr. Jean Norris
Deborah, interesting. It sounds like you have had mixed results with not giving cost over the phone. I'm curious, what are some ideas to overcome that? Dr. Jean Norris
Stephanie, thanks for sharing this. Inviting the potential student to an event on campus is a great way for them to learn a little more about how they would be a great fit. Nice work. Dr. Jean Norris
Alex, Being flexible and listening not only to what is being said but what's going on in the background is a great way to make sure you're meeting the needs of your prospective student. You bring up another great point with using email; asking about your prospective students' preferred method of communication can help both you and that student deliver/receive the information in the best manner for that person. Dr. Jean Norris
Deborah, that is one way to leave a message for a potential student. I am curious, what has the response been from some of your students in the past? Dr. Jean Norris
Catherine, you make a great point here. Too often we communicate in the way we think a message should be sent, however, we have to look at the receiver of the message to make sure it was understood how we intended. Great job. Dr. Jean Norris
Devin, Great self awareness! I'm curious how you hold yourself in a place of active listening? Dr. Jean Norris
Catherine, that's great awareness. It sounds like you are using your listening skills in order to help you remember the issue, but also not interrupt the student and perhaps address it later. Dr. Jean Norris
Catherine, thanks for sharing these tools. I'm curious, how have your students responded to using these suggestions? Dr. Jean Norris
