I agree Connal. We must make sure student needs are met first and foremost. Then, we can focus on efficiencies. One of the great things about streamlining grading is how much it benefits our students. When we save time, we are more free to spend time meeting student needs.

Yes, conscious effort daily is the key. Spending the energy can sometimes feel hard to justify at first. However, once we experience the benefits we come to understand that we're saving ourselves quite a headache in the end.

Great to hear Cynthia! "Do it now" people are typically on top of things. But with no list at the house, a few things may slip through the cracks. In addition, you may find that you feel like you have to complete everything right away to make sure you don't forget. An at-home to-do list could help if you're experiencing these kinds of challenges.

It's hard when students take advantage of our flexibility. I always recommend setting deadlines and keeping them. Letting students learn in a structured context helps them prepare for the structured work world. We do not do them any favors by department from our standards.
