About me

Activity

Amanda-- I understand completely. The type of activity is very important. We definitely don't want to talk down to the students or make it feel like 3rd grade when we had to tell 'what I did on summer vacation' :) Done well, it can really help them and the instructor. One of the most interesting ones for me was in a graduate class when we had to introduce another student. It requires that you actually listen and also reveal the things about ourself that you want others to know. Susan
Patricia-- Career placement is the ultimate point--getting people ready and working in their new career. The stronger you can make the relationship, the better. Keeping students focused on their career goal is critical. Susan
Jackie-- That sounds like a great process. Kudos! Susan
Kate-- All excellent points. Sounds like you have a great method for making students feel at home and welcomed. Setting them up for success is critical. Susan
Thomas-- That is an excellent point that I don't believe anyone has brought up yet...and that is getting them involved in other ways with the institution. If your school has any professional or extra-curricular activities, these are excellent ways to help students get connected with each other and feel more apart of the institution. Susan
David-- That sounds like a fun as well as useful situation. Another participant indicated their institution had students write themselves a letter about their fears, obstacles, etc. in their first class--then gave it back to them at graduation. That sounded like a great idea as well. Susan
Jeffrey-- That is awesome that you are involved in the actual admission process. I am sure this makes a very positive difference for the prospective students. Susan
Paul-- That's great! The power of using someone's name is immense and reinforces that you care about them individually. Susan
Troy-- I really like your 'booth' idea. Do the students feel comfortable with stopping by? Susan
Craig-- That is wonderful that you can relate to them as an alumni. I am sure it is reassuring for them. Susan
