About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Farzana, this is a great strategy as it promotes the interaction & also helps them reflect on the material. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Kathryn, great point as you are exactly right that the stories provide ways that they can remember the content better. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
James, the idea of the pauses is a good one. Even asking some deeper questions & allowing the silence so all have time to process. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Shawnte, this is a great idea, as it really helps you see from the student's perspective so you know how best to help them & empathize with them. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Malcolm, the idea of the take-home quizzes or utilizing a learning portal if you have them is a great way to allow that extra time & opportunity for focus. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Virginia, yes, & by law we cannot ask & so we need to demonstrate our willingness to help them in any way possible. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Jean , the extra time really is a great way to help a struggling learner & it costs nothing in the way of materials or resources. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Wynell , to me one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is to see the transformation in many of my students & watch as they grow & develop themselves & in their areas of expertise. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Angelica, great reminder to have that patience & seek to help our students in any way possible. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Laura, these are great ideas; I like to give students the chance to articulate the ideas without trying to write (at first) as that can really help them solidify the content. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
