Sameena, I have taken a similar approach with my students. By using the "team concept" (in regards to learning0, students are able to feel that they hold an important role in their education. In this concept, the instructors are usually perceived as "approachable" (by students), because they do not conduct the classroom like a "dictatorship". Tremayne Simpson

Billy, The taxonomy of learning "the organization or categorization of statements of expected or intended student learning" (MaxKnowledge). There is a summary of the concept in the "Learning Objectives and Standards" portion of the course. It is a good idea to compare and contrast with Bloom's taxonomy. Tremayne Simpson
Miriam, I agree. Students tend to learn more about themselves (in general), once they understand what type of learner they are. Tremayne Simpson
Billy, This is not a "stupid" question...in fact their are many instructors that are not familiar with Bloom's taxonomy. The Learning Taxonomy section of this course, provide an excellent summary of how the theory can be placed into instructional practice, however thousands of academic journals and publications have compiled research and background on Bloom's Taxonomy and can be found within any educational database (i.e. EBSCO, FirstSearch, etc.). alan, In addition, the learning taxonomy can be used to remind students that "education" is process-based. Taking "short cuts" in learning can negatively affect a student's ability to retain and apply, the received information. Tremayne Simpson
Miriam, This is also what the students expect, when they enroll into a career college. Therefore, it is also important that instructors never "waiver" on their expectations and standards for success. For instance, "passing" a student that has not met the learning objectives of the course, may prove to hurt them in their future. Tremayne Simpson

alan, This is an excellent best practice. This ensures that the student will use the proper, academic forms of research when they are developing their projects. By making this a part of the grading criteria, students may ultimately improve their information literacy skills and learn to be more apprehensive, in regards to selective sources. Tremayne Simpson
Miriam, Documented lesson plans also serve as great "working documents" that can be used as a personal development timeline for the instructor. From time-to-time, it is a great idea to compare past lesson plans to current, in order to see the instructional growth. Tremayne Simpson
