Hi Jim:
Seeking out help is one of the most responsible acts a student can perform. Of course, our job is then to provide that assistance. While giving advice, we can also encourage. When providing suggestions for improvement, we convey we care about the students success. It's really a great opportunity. I always enjoy it when students seek me out for assistance.

Hi James:
Very true sentiments. And I think if we can provide this information either 1-on-1, or at least in some interpersonal manner, it'll go farther because we're able to convey our interest in their success.

Students want to know what their grade is. They feel rewarded when they see how good they are doing an it is a good motivator if they are on the edge of a letter grade to try harder.

It's vital to keep students informed of their performance so they know which areas they need to improve on. Since one topic is built on the one before it, if a student does not adequately grasp it he/she will not do well on the one that follows. Thus, by keeping the students on track they know that they have to work on it more in order to go on to the next level.

This keeps them engaged at all times. Having goals in front of them at every junction keeps them wanting to strive for their ultimate goal...
Which is to perform at the best of their abilities.

Students need to have regular updates as to their status in a course so they may seek additional help/tutoring as needed. It is also helpful to the instructor since the instructor may need to modify his or her method of teaching to better assist the students in learning the material.

Is important that students know their way to assess who has trouble and must be done to improve.
Ms Melendrez.

It is important to keep students informed of their status in the course at all times:

1. It will let the student know what are their strong points and what are their weak points.

2. It will let the student know what areas they will need to improve in right away before the class ends or the areas they need to get more tutoring in.

3. The students' grades should be no surprise at the end of course because they were kept informed at all times and given the time to get the help to improve if needed.

4. Students like to be validated and assured that they are doing well in the class and also if they are not doing well they appreciate your interest in assisting them to be successful in the course before the end of the course.

I agree. Students need to know where they stand in the class.

When students are informed of their status they will know where their strengths and weaknesses are and in what places they need to improve on

It is important because students need and desire the opportunity to check in on their scores and see how they're doing thoughout the course. This also gives them an ongoing chance to address any grading issues they are concerned with.

Hi Amanda:
You're right. Adult learners want to know how they're doing, even if it's less than wonderful news. I like taking time to share status to facilitate my relationship, encourage, and give advice. Most students appreciate the personal touch.

It is necessary in order to nip a possible problem in the bud early enough in the course. This gives the student sufficient time to improve his/her grade. It also serves as a reality check. Does the actual grade at a certain point in the course match up with the student's perception of his/her progress?

Students always want know how they are doing in a course, especially adult students because they want to know if they're paying for it themselves most of the time. It's just good to know whether they are on the right track...and if not what do they need to do to get back on.

Hi Lamarr:
Getting face to face time to share status, performance, give advice and encouragement is so valuable. It helps buid relationships too. Kind words of support really go a long way.

It helps students to realize where they stand at different points in the course. If they are not doing so well at the early part of the course but they see that as they move through the course their grades get better, it will encourage them to finish the course off strong and learn more at the same time.

Keeping the students up-to-date on their grades is extremely important because the students need to know how they are doing in the class and the quick return of the grades allows the students to adjust their study techniques.

When students are informed as to their current status in the course, it can serve several purposes. For one the student can see exactly how they performed and if needed can ask for assistance or feedback. Two students need to feel like they are progressing and if they are not happy with their status they can seek tutoring or counciling

Students will are more likely to stay engaged, through the course, as they are aware of their grade standing.

Students need to know where they need to improve. For example, maybe they have done well on written assignments, but not as well on tests. By being aware of this and keeping the student updated, I can talk with them about study skills, time spent on studying, or test anxiety.
I keep an electronic gradbook that is updated before each class meeting. This allows students to check on their grades before or after class. It is an opportunity for me to give them feedback. Also, I think that the students appreciate the opportunity to see their grades. Overall, it helps to build rapport with the students.
