It is important to keep them motivated and and aware of where they are in the course as well as letting them know what areas may need strengthening.
It's important because they need to know what they are needing to improve and focus on. The goal is not to have your students fail their class but to help them become more knowledgeable in areas they may be struggling in.
It is important to keep students informed of their status in the course at all times. I assign three deliverables every week. I post the grades before the next class meeting. Students can check their grades on the student portal. They know where they stand in class. There will be no surprise at the end of the course term. Also, it gives the student enough time to improve their grades.
It shows the student where they stand in the course and what exactly are the students flaws or where they might need to focus their attention to more. I want all students to succeed but I also want all my students to be able to retain material. Students and instructors need to have also a good communication relationship.
Hi William:
Good summary! Many schools use electronic grading and I think technology may have an unwanted effect of becoming too impersonal. Meeting face to face, early on and regulary affords a teacher time to share performance status while there's still time to improve. We can also offer kindness and sincerity in showing we care about their success.
Regards, Barry
Hi Cynthia:
Yeah, when we're positive, student's like that and are more likely to respond to what we have say in a favorable manner - even if it's less than wonderful news. Honesty and sincerity show we care.

Hi Alice-Marie:
Great! I think sincere advice given along with support and delivered in a caring manner will convince most students the teacher has their best interests in mind. So we can use this time for both purposes - sharing course information and encouragement.
Regards, Barry
I think it's important because it instills confidence in the student. It can also give the student an idea on what to focus on in the future. Lastly, it shows students that you care about their progress by providing timely feedback.
Not only do students need to know their course status, but also need the encouragement of what's working for them, and where to focus on weaker areas that the instructor can guide them towards. Their focus may not be on target and 1:1 conferences can coach and help them with alternative ways to improve.
It is very important to inform students the status becuase it can motivate each student as well as help those students determine if they need to devote more time to study. All of us like positive fedback and want to know where we are in a learning environment.
It also helps the instructor determine if the course work needs to be adjusted for better learning outcomes.
Hi Ashley:
Yeah, when we can accuately and conscientiously share performance status with students, they appreciate it, may do better, and hopefully acheive beyond what they think they can do!
Regards, Barry
Hi Becka:
Great - good teachers want their student to know how their doing. Another way is to get real-time feedback from students as the lesson is progressing. That way, students always know if they are understanding the material, or need further clarification.

Hi Shanna:
By giving personal time to students, they will appreciate the encouragement as well as advice.

I think it is important to keep students informed so they have the oppurtunity to work harder and get that better grade if need be.
Hi Stephanie:
I agree that ongoing and on-course coirrection provides the best route for student success. Waiting too long to discuss performance does little good. But early only on, good advice and encouragement, along with assistance and support can potentially produce improved student outcomes.

Hi Keelan:
Good! When students understand their status, they will be more motivated to continue their good work, and improve based on the positive feedback they get from their instructor.
Regards, Barry
it is important to keep students informed on their status in the course so they can see there growth and understanding of whats going on.it allows you and the student to evaluate each other to see if the course is being taught in a way the student understand
Hi Yaima:
I really value the 1-on-1 time I can give my students, and that includes when I'm discussing their performance. It gives me an opportunity to both share information and cheer them on. They usually appreciate that.

Hi Nisa:
Yes, step-by-step. And I believe the teacher has the biggest influence over how those steps can be guided. Like a coach, we also have the oppotunity to give uplifting remarks to steady their stair climbing efforts.
Regards, Barry
Hi Raymond:
Most students will benefit from staying informed. Some will be turned off if they are performing poorly and even try to redirect the responsibilty to someone or something else. I think personal contact when sharing grade information is most important because I can use that time to also offer myself, encourage, and convey my concern for their successfulness.
