I think it is very important to keep students informed at all times. For my class it is every 3 weeks unless I notice any major changes in grades status. Students want to know where they stand, many of my students keep track however, they do not keep track of their attendance which affects their participation grades, therefore, keeping them in the loop and informed is tremendous for me.

By keeping students informed on their status at all times ,the student will know if they should study more to improve .

I agree. Students have to know were they stand in the class and how they perform. I go over test after it was done. I let students ask questions and see if they can give me the correct answer.

I have found that the students are "self-competitive" and it helps them to know where they stand grade-wise in class. Some students are also very anxious about keeping thier grades up and want to make sure that they did OK on an assignment or quiz. Adult students, as discussed in an earlier module, need that self-directed learning and autonomy and I feel this helps them gain their sense of both.

This helps the student be aware of their progress in the course and single out any problem areas, and gives time to focus and fix the problem.

When a student knows how he or she is doing it gives them the opportunity to know what they need to do better in order to earn the grade that they desire.

Students are very interested and motivated by keeping up with their grade status.

Early screening can alert the students if they are failing.specially when students are missing the test and assignments they must be informed their status in the course.

I keep my gradebook available for students any time they need to know their class standing. This is very important because they should not be surprised to find out at the end of the module that they are not getting the grade that they thought they deserved.

Also, this helps them assess their performance so that they could work on what needs to be done in order to achieve their desired outcome.

Informing students of their status in the course reduces students' anxiety and shows them that I am interested in their progress.

Remaining current with students' grades also reduces my time and anxiety as the end of the term nears. Having a current grade handy helps both teachers and students and in reducing stress for both teacher and student.

I like to let my students know every three weeks where they stand in my class. I give them a note listing their current grade and any assignments that are missing and currently able to be made up. This gives my students a chance to make up assignments, at a lower score, and also know what their current grade and is how hard they need to work to achieve the final grade they want for the class.

Students need constant feedback so they can focus on areas they are struggling with.

Hi Tammy:
Sure - nearl;y beveryone is usually interested in their performance. Some schools have electronic grading systems that allow the teacher and student both see their graded assignments virtually instantaneously. But I believe that as slick as some of these systems are, there is just no substitute for face-toface communication with the student. This allows the teacher to convey interest, support, enthusiasm, and advice on how students can improve. That's really invaluable quality time.

Regards, Barry

Students need to know how they are doing in your class as far as grades. Some students do much better on classwork, projects, while others do much better on written/computerized testing. It even helps students decide if they are going to participate in extra credit projects. Keeping the students informed of their grades means there should be no surprises at the end of the term creating problems when final grades are posted.

I personally believe that students must be aware of there status in the course, by informing the student this gives them ownership of the manner in which there grade is developing, and it allows them to see what they can do to improve there grades.

Allowing a student to know how they are doing in class is key to helping them get better. The instructor should continuously allow the student to know how their progress is and help them make adjustments in order to better their grades in class.

Students can move forward if they know where they currently stand.

It's important we are trying to make them professional and that's what professional do.

It is important to keep them informed so that they can see their progress, be encouraged by it and continue to succeed or work on achieving more. However, I find that is only a few grades have been posted, it can be misleading to give a student a progress report. They may have missed one small assignment that really bumped their grade down and it can discourage them more than help them.

Students need to be aware of where they stand at each grading period and after any major graded activities. This allows them to take some responsibility for their grades.
