Hi Deborah:

The best idea when selecting course material is to employ as many teaching styles as we can in order to address as many learning styles as possible. Selecting material and presenting it in a visual, audio, and kinesthetic way is considered the most efficient method of delivery.

the instructor today needs looking modern-day, that's why the projector is an effective clasroom presentation method for PowerPoint software. In my class i used to prepare the lesson with imagens, photos, videos and pictures to explain more the subject and clarify the main point, and combination with the white-board....the result is great

I still like use the white board. I feel that the power point often will make feel that he or she does not have to write the information down.

Hi Michele:
Most texts that include PPTs do an fair job of providing the necessary material. One thing we need to be careful of is never to read each slide, but instead, expound on the primary ideas.

We use Smart boards and Power Points for all of my classes. I find that the Smart boards are the best way to deliver information to the students.

this is the computer age so i tend to make as many hands on labs as possibile.

I do feel instructional media needs to be selected by the type of material being covered. most of the time I used PowerPoint Presentations and the rule of thumb is to keep things simple, to many words of text will be anybody to sleep even if the subject matter is of interst. Another key is put photos and other colorful things when possible to help keep the students interest

It is often difficult to cover the finer points of a topic by strictly adhering to the sequence of PPT slides often provided by the author/publisher. Also, the darkness of the room can make note-taking difficult for some students.

Hi Paula:
To piggy-back on what you wrote, another thing using a variety of teaching techniques addresses is that it helps keep the atmosphere upbeat and robust instead of the monotony associated with any SINGLE presentation style.

I often use the publisher's pp presentations as a base line. I add my own slides or delete some of them. This way I can cover exactly what I think is most important. The only problem is that some students do not take the time to read the chapter in it's entirety.

We have a set cirriculum we have to use in the form of powerpoint, but fortunately we are allowed a lot of leeway in our classes. I have guest speakers, other instructors, and former students come in also.

I use the power point provided by the school but I also will add drawings on the white board and pass around components for the students to handle. I try to use several different methods when teaching to reach as many different learning types as possible.

I try to create interesting things for the students to view while in class. I use Power Point. I usually create my own presentations or adjust the publisher slides. The publisher slides are not always good. I also use Turning Point which is an interactive program. The students have "clickers" and I am able to ask a question through the slides. They answer using their devise. It helps keep them engaged because they have to pay attention and answer the question during the lecture.

Hi Ron:
The effective technique you are using is sure to address sever learning styles, making it more likely a greater percentage of your students will retain your information.

Hi Kara:
That sounds like an effective method of instructional delivery because you are using more than one presentation style, which is sure to address as many learning styles as you can.

hi joe:
Great points! To expand on some things you mentioned, determining what is appropariate for the group can be difficult due to the fact that not everyone learns at the same pace, or as you mentioned, in the same way.

To echo what you wrote, the best way to address this ongoing phenomenon is to utilize as many senses and teaching methods as we can to address as many people as we can.

I look at the content and try to determine the most effetive way to deliver it. I then look at my studetn populatin and determine how they will best absorb the information. I had one class that could not learn from PowerPoint, they had much better outcomes if I used the white board.

I select media for content delivery based on the student population and how the majority of the class will be able to participate with the method. A student population not versed on higher technology methods may learn material from a hands-on approach of the material.

I plan ahead. Once I have an idea of what i am going over the following week, I decide if I need to get props together, videos or a powerpoint as well as games. There are somethings that have to be shown to students and there are other items that you can just lecture over.
