I use many different things in my classes such as poems and music. The students find this fun and see me as a real person, not just someone standing up there talking to them.
I think being prepared for lecture or labs in vital. This allows you to fully deliver the message of the day. It also allows you the freedom of any suprises that may pop up.
You also have to take it class to class. Each class is going to made up of different learning styles which will change some of your delivery each time. Being prepared, will make this easier.
Setting the Mood within in the classroom help open the floor for a healthly learnig enviroment. Make sure you are well organized and very open for any questions. Also having the ability to identify that you don't know the answer to all question but you are capable of finding the correct answer for you students right away. Always lead by example and make sure you have a listening ear and stern answer that follows.
Utilize more tools and ideas from other successful instructors.
I use exit points. Before I allow the students to leave for the day, each student must correctly answer one question from the subject matter covered to date. They encourage each other, and this technique helps them to learn the material.
I relate content to real world experiences.
FARZANA,
Good for you. This makes the content both valuable as well as relevant. Especially in a course like math where the students are often not the most excited about being there in the first place.

Daniel,
All good strategies to follow in helping the students to get ready for their careers. They need to have models available to them so they can see the value associated with being a contributing member of the workforce.

In Math the students need to know what it is all about, where they will use it in real life. I use the real life applications of the topic that makes it more interesting.

This is really an important issue. Having the classroom setup prior to the students arriving sends a message "I'm ready are you". When the students graduate and begin working, their employers are going to expect this type of behavior. Also, we can more effectively demand this promptness from our students.
Using media resources and demonstrations (when feasible) are great in keeping the interest levels up. Stories are also a good way to help focus or relax your students
Thanks, this approach worked well in the classroom and I tried it again in my online chats - it helps.
Gary,
Students like the "wow" factor as well as the personal stories. It helps them to see relevance and application to what is being taught.

small group instruction and discussion by placing students in groups and assigning a topic for discussion, this gives the students confidence and gives them a role in their learning process.
I do the same and the students have fun with it. Also, I also allow the topic to seemingly drift away to a subject that we will be discussing later in a week or two, as a way to try to develop an interest prior and get their thoughts on the subject.
I think that enhancing my instructional style would include including "wow" activities into classes as well as personal stories and experiences relevant to the subject matter. Show the students how the subject matter will transfer to their outside activities.

I agree it helps with the interactions with the students
Class preparation on time, use of media resources and practicals demonstrations.
Daniel,
Good way to bring the students into the discussions since they know that you will be calling on them if at first they don't jump into the discussion. Either way input is being sought by you.
