The environment is one of the strongest roles that play in the learning environment for learning. If the students is not comfortable they do not have their minds on acquiring the knowledge that is needed to learn.
The learning environment can play a crital role in the overall success of the class. A classroom environment that is free of riticule and negative energy can promote critical thinking skills, promote questions and make personal connections that may exceeding daily goals of material coverage.
The learning environment sets the pace for the coarse. If the instructor is ill prepared the class will have a sense of doubt. With this said, PREPARATION,PREPARATION,PREPARATION!
The learning environment needs to such that the student is not fully aware of all of the facets that make it possible. Indeed if the students are thinking about the learning environment they are in, then perhaps, changes need to be made as the students should be focused to the task at hand--the lesson.
Hi Ines,
You make a number of good points about instructional pacing. This is very important in order for the students to get what they individually need from the learning process.

Greetings Maurine!
In your post you stated that a Plan B is needed. I'm not quite sure what you mean. Please clarify.
Thanks,
Lendozia
The environment which include conditions of living and learning. The condition of learning means the teachers, the school (facility, services,...) and the student community. It does not mean high -degree teachers, good school and huge and active community can form a good place for studying. The point here is how the condition match the students' character. For example, a shy and slow student study in a so active community with teacher providing teaching method fit the major student will be down and won't learn any thing. He need a slower place and when get used to it, he can move to a faster place. Contrastingly, an active student study in a slow school will feel bored and with be slow down.
One needs to have a plan B. Especially when there is a class immediately before the one you are teaching. This sometimes makes it difficult to make sure everything you need is working before your class starts.
Hi Alicia,
Good point. Physical comfortable and mental acceptance necessary for students to become and stay engaged in the learning process.
Gary
It's true that the a comfortable environment places the student in the proper situation to learn best. When I sit in meeting and I'm too cold or too warm It creates distractions that defray from receiving the information presented.
Hi Mona,
Good point about the physical aspects of a teaching environment. The setting is important so we need to be aware of how students see it and then make changes it in it if we can to make it more comfortable for them.
Gary
The learning environment needs to be safe and comfortable. It also need to be inspiring and encouraging. A room with bland, blank walls does not encourage a student to be excited about learning new content. At the same time you do not want to distract students with over stimlating. A use of color, examples of course content or past student work can entice a student to strive to acheive more.
I believe there are 2 componets to the learning environment. First, there is the physical environment. It must be comfortable and conducive to learning, i.e. good lighting, good temperture control, good seating, good writing surfaces, good blackboards etc. The second part of the environment is the attitude of the instructor. A positve attitude regarding how the information that will be presented will actually assist them in the real world is critical to peak interest.
Hello Wendy,
What are some ways that you bring your students into the curriculum?
Thanks,
Evan
The learning environment is crucial to the learning effect. Students have to have a safe learning environment in order to fully master the material. This means that they are comfortable participating in all aspects of the course and are willing to take risks. The professor must also have a positive rapport with the students in order for this type of environment to be established. The expectations also must be set for all students so that they have a clear idea of what is expected of them. One way to do this is to use rubrics for all assignments.
Greetings Abdalla!
Great post! I am also a mathematics instructor. The learning environment has a great bearing on student success. In your post you stated that your classroom must become a "safe haven". What are some things you do to ensure this happens? Please share your thoughts.
Thanks,
Lendozia
The learning environment has a tremendous impact on the instructional process. For example, if a classroom does not allow an instructor to monitor the progress of students, then progress will not be monitored. In addition, in order for instructors to include collaborative learning groups in their lessons, the classroom must be conducive for groups.
Hi David,
How do you show your students the results of a plan or task? Is it through discussion, visuals or questioning? Thanks in advance for your response.
Gary
Will effect the students to be in a peacfull classroom by example which will help them to concetrate on the lessons and to understand better the subjects.
Being an online instructor, I see most often how students interpret the learning environment as initially generated by the online delivery program selected by the college. Especially for first-time online students, this environment and learning how to navigate can be daunting. I have students from various campuses across the country, but I make a point to know who the online "help" tutors are at each of their colleges as well as the availability of their IT depts. I always give them a link to the online tutorial. I help with online orientation by giving detailed information in an Announcement at the beginning of each Quarter, and share the link to the online tutorial. I provide both email support to anyone having problems, as well as phone help 24/7 anytime needed while they are online and working thru perhaps submitting the first forum or quiz or paper, etc. or if issues develop for them later in the Quarter. Once we get beyond those issues, creating a supportive learning environment comes thru having a clear and well-organized format that I use every class I teach, every Quarter...so students know what to expect from my courses. I rely heavily on grading comments to create a sense of "being there" for the students, as well as answer emails no later than 24-hours...and usually the same day. I always invite students to call me anytime day or night, weekends or holidays, with questions and concerns. This has helped students to feel connected in some ways (according to what students have told me) that go beyond what they might have in some of the ground-class situations. I feel every effort I make in this manner is very important, in particular with new students and/or freshman classes.
