I find that the learning environment plays important role. I set up the classroom and I feel that I am prepared, but the students play an important role to the learning environment. I have had 2 sections of the same class and they go totally different because of the student questions and their attitudes.

I also run my classroom like it is a work enviornment. If you train students in the classroom how to be professionals then they will be better off when they move into the real world of professionals.

I AGREE WITH KEVIN THAT IF STUDENTS FIND LEARNING CAN BE FUN THEN THEY ARE ALL THE MORE LIKELY TO EXCEL.

The learning environment is very effect in that if students are not comfortable with their surrounding or space they will become distracted and may be unable to learn.

Hi Katherine,
Good point. Instructors need to work at getting the students settled into the course and comfortable with the learning process. This will increase their learning satisfaction and retention.

I agree realstic teaching is very important to the students success. Students are very engaged in the lesson when realistic situations are discussed.

If the students are not comftorable when learning you can't hold their attention and the learning process is not a postive enviroment.

Hi Mark,
So true and so important. Your approach helps to make the classroom a learning site rather than just a meeting place. This helps the students to become comfortable and settled while preparing to learn.

In my opinion the environment plays a role in learning whether we want to think so or not. It is hard enough with lighting, to cold, to hot ect.....
From my years teaching another thing that makes a great impact on students is if we lecture in a room with nothing on the walls. I call this the "sterile" feel.
The "sterile" feel then causes the lack of an inviting warm and fuzzy place to learn, making it much harder to Stimulate and motivate the student.
So at the start of every year I make the students do projects and use those projects to make the room more fun and Nonsterile. They take pride in their room because of the personal Involvement they put forth.

I think it plays a vital role in the learning process. I try to make the class as "real world-like as possible. The students become comfortable learning in a setting that is as similiar to the working area as possible. This helps to put the student in the proper mind set.

Successful instructors are to engage students in all aspects of their learning. There are many strategies for accomplishing this. Assessment is synonymous with teaching strategies that gauge student progress in both learning environments.

There are mulitple instructional strategies available that promote student engagement, student participation, and how responsibility in placed on both the instructor and student. In order to improve student achievement and learning, instructors should be able to acknowledge when students are not progressing according to established course objectives. There are many classroom instructional strategies that are part of the repertoire of good teaching

I try to adjust the instruction process to the learning styles of the students in that particular class. I do believe when a student fells comfortable and safe in the classroom, they are more apt to relax and are able to better focus on the subject at hand. At the beginning of each term, I give a learning style inventory and adjust my planning accordingly.

If the learning environment isn't professional, then the students don't take the class serious and others students and instructor will suffer.

The learning environment plays a vital role in the instructional process. Depending on the course objective the seating arrangment is important to consider i.e. rows inhibit interaction with other students, a circle encourages it. Lighting, size of the classroom, attitude of the instructor are all important environmental considerations. Primarily, the instructor should create a safe and supportive environment for learners.

One of the major roles in the learning environment is play. although we may teach in an adult environment there are psycological and socialogical values to play. when you couple the capabilities of computers with the advantage of play you are creating a interactive multi-media learning environment.

students need to be in a plae that has the equipment needed

The learning environment is very important in the role of a student. It provides them with the safe and secure atmosphere that helps them to accomplish different goals they set out to achieve.

Hi Amy,
Great attitude. Keep bringing it to the classroom, your students I know benefit from it. Excitement is critical if we are going to "sell" learning because our students are only as good as our efforts are to instruct.

There are many different areas of environment to consider. The first is physical comfort. Are the chairs comfortable? Is the temperature comfortable? How is the light? Are there visible outside destractions? Is the paint too dark or light? When you look at these items, you must consider Maslow's Heiarchy. If a student is physically uncomfortable, they will not be able to pay attention. Social comfort is another important aspect. If a student does not feel socially comfortable, they are likely to become reserved and disengage. Mentally, the student must feel confident that they can succeed in the course, this is up to the instructor. Where I teach, if any of the above mentioned areas are not addressed, a student gives up and ends their educational journey. Providing a learning environment for a student is much more that a classroom with a few models and lecture.
