Hi Thomas,
Relevancy and application, two key words for instructors. We need to continually ask ourselves if we are making sure both of these words are integrated into our instructional delivery.
Gary
In order for anyone to be proficient in anything, ones environment must be conducive and beneficial to learning what is at hand. For example., if you are teaching an English class, would you be doing so in a Biology lab? One's environment must accommodate what lesson is to be learned.
I get in the classroom ahead of time about 15 or 20 min. so I can get everything set up. This way, I don't have to stress about having any technical difficulties at the last minute. I make sure the projector, and computer are working properly. I also hand back any papers and talk with the students as they are entering the classroom
It should provide a safe place to ask questions without judgement or fear of feeling "stupid". It is a place to go through the learning process and improve to a point where the student is comfortable and competent to be placed "in the field".
I believe that is a grest role on us as instructer to remind ourssel that we were aso in their shoes. And have gone through the the hardships and struggles to get to were we are. Alos for instructors to share those experiences and that students realize.
i try to keep class fun and interesting and come up with group activities
Hi Jose,
You sure did. Thank you for your great comments about how important the environment is on learning success. We need always to be aware of this as we get ready for out classes.
Gary
Hi Angie,
For many students the stability of a comfortable supportive learning environment is critical. They know while they are in the class they can forget briefly about life issues and concentrate on their future.
Gary
The class must be relavent. I find that teaching with real life examples from personal experiences as well as the use of case studies to be helpful to the students.
The learning environment is integral in thought processes. There are variances in a learning environment. Most variances tend to focus on the applicability of the expected mood or tempo of the subject matter for that particular time and the particular group of students.
Without an effective learning environment, a teacher's lecture or demonstration will just go down the drainage as waste. One variance is distraction; another one is room temperature. It could be hot, cold or humid. Another variance is the size of the classroom and the number of students.
Developing an effective learning environment is critical in imparting knowledge to your students. No matter what type of expertise an instructor has, learning will never occur if your listeners are not comfortable.
I hope I hit the nail right on its head.
An environment that is conducive to learning is essential. Being equipped with the proper tools helps the instructor to convey the information needed to produce success.
The learning enviroment should be safe and comfortable for the students to learn effectively. The students should feel that they are in structured environment and be able to ask and discuss information openly.
The learning environment it vital to the success of the student. The environment should be professional, structured, and conducive to learning. I am not saying that it needs to be uptight and stuffy, if you can make it fun at the same time the students will be eager to come to class and hear what the instructor has to say.
Hi Deward,
Good point about the environment. If it is not supportive then it becomes a distraction that is hard to overcome.
Gary
The learning environment is extremly important. Students need to feel they are learning and they have been given all the tools to learn. At times you need to break up the learning process, I give stories of my life in the field. Mistakes I made and how I corrected them. Bringing in guess speakers from the fields of study is always good.
The environment must be up to date, clean, friendly, and up to date teaching aids available. This enables the instructor to be ecclectic in the teaching approach.
I agree, the environment can make or break a lecture. I have had to move from cold rooms to hot rooms to cooler rooms because the cooling system was set to building sections at different times of the day. This had adverse reactions while trying to get the point across.
Hi Lea,
Good point about the environment. What do you consider the biggest factor in establishing a supportive environment for students?
Gary
i agree. what do we do different to keep students coming back for more. people remember easier with fun and catchy phrases. like in hematology, order of draw.
I second that. The environment plays a big role. If the student can relate to it's environment, they will gain a sense of trust and security. Thus, making learning more conducive.
