Often times our students are balancing family responsibilities with professional responsibilities in addition to being a student. I agree that by providing clear goals and objectives the student is better able to manage their indiviidual learning process. If they know in advance that these 10 objectives are the primary focus and desired learning outcomes; they are able to manage their individual schedules accordingly to allow for academic success while continuiing with their careers and family responsibilities.

having goals to enter a successful career puts a value to the school work, a value spurs ambition

Goal s and objectives are important to the instructor as well as the student. It is important that the student understand what behaviors or tasks are expected of them in the class as well as it give the instructor an objectibe measurement of the students progress, as both know the expectations

Having a clear and focused list of objectives helps you plan your lessons and gauge the overall understand of your class. You will spend less time explaining the order of your lessons, or the goals for the year because they will be accessible by everyone. You can point both students and parents to the objectives for a basic overview, and you can spend time reviewing and testing important concepts listed on the objectives.

Having an outline of things to learn and focus on can help students stay on track. By posting your classroom objectives in plain view, students will be able to track their progress on their own and work ahead if able. They will gain a better understanding on the required work and will be able to work independently both inside and outside of the classroom.

Anna-Maria,
Well said. You have outlined some very good advice for instructors to follow. Thanks for sharing it with.

Clear goals and objectives are important for any course in order for the students to have a clear idea of what they should be taking away from the class. This also provides a guide for the class from week to week to help both the students and the instructor stay on track.

As an instructor you need to keep ontask, and developing clear goals and objectives will acomplish that goal for whatever class you are teaching. Clear goals and objectives are also beneficial to the students, because they want to know what they are responsible for. This not only helps with your instructional goal, but also with the legal aspect of the profession.

Like everything else in life, without some direction we would be lost.

Having a clear goal and objectives for a course gives the student a sense of direction and expectation. It also forms a basis for students to measure their learning at the end of the course.

For me --it would set the standard for the class section from day 1 and continues till classes ends. It provides what instructor and students are going to do within the class section. Every student wants to know what is going to be done in the class room, and providing the details makes life so much easier. Students can come prepared with clear goals of what is expected of him or her and objectives of the "whys" this is going to be done.

Developing clear goals and objectives on the first day of class minimizes course ambiguity, and provides the student with the minimum standards of course content and classroom responsibilities. The expectations are in writing and are reflected upon throughout the course being taught. The student should always have access to these goals and objectives.

It is critical to provide clear goals and objectives for each course because it pre-pares the students for what is going to be covered in class week by week, and/or day by day.
It also guides them on what is expected of them to deliver.

"If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there." Developing clear goals and objectives give students a sense of certainty in their education. By providing goals and objectives from the beginning, students can feel more comfortable concerning their individual progress.

Clear goals and objectives ensure that the instructor remains on the correct path, as well as allow students ti understand what they will be attempting to achieve.

Its important because it let me know if the students have received more knowledge of the course after being a student in my class.

So that you'll have high expectations and be prepared for the task that are before you.

it is important for students to learn.

This is really critical for students and their learning experience. To best succeed, students need to be first at ease with the material (and hopefully the instructor). I think part of the "at ease" the students experience comes from knowing what is expected of them, how grades will be assessed and a timeline for completion. The other part of the "at ease" factor is how instructors presents themselves and the material.

Having clear goals and easily understood objectives for the course gives the students a better understanding as to what is expected of them and helps prepare them for what will be covered in the course.

it is important to establish goals and objectives in order to let the student know what they have to do to get the knowledge and the direction they should take to get the most out of the lessson we are teaching them.
