We all like to know what is expected from us. This is true on our jobs as well as in our private lives. Students are no different. Setting clear goals and objectives allow the students to know exactly what is expected from them in order to be successful in the course. It also helps to decreases their stress level.

Developing goals and objectives will help provide a clear guide of concepts and principals Of what will be taught and what the students will be expected to learn and where the are going in the subject.

It makes it easier to prepare for each night of teaching. I know what I need to accomplish and I can make my lesson plans from that.

Clear Goals and objectives are important because it provides a guide for the lesson. They inform students of what they will learn in each lesson. You will also be able to focus on the expected outcomes.

It is very important to have clear rules and regulations as well as course performance objectives

It will help the students:
1. Understand the most important isseues of the subject.
2.Know in advance what is expected from them
3. Be part and actively cooperate in the classroom activities.

*keep instructor focused
*allow clarity for students
*allow assessment of progress throughout and after course.

Cute. I will have to use that one!

Clear and concise. That is the key. I find the students feel so overwhelmed at the beginning of the course. By having bite sized goals and objectives, and assessing they have met those goals often gives them sense of accomplishment.

Setting clear goals and objectives helps both the instructor and student understand what is expected. It also helps the student take responsibility for their learning.

May I add that for many of our students Clear Goals may give them direction as to what are the "have to dos" and the "nice to dos". With life (work, children, caretaking...) demands they sometimes must choose only the "have to dos" in order to serve the other Masters of their time.

It is important to have clear goals and objectives because they serve as the foundation for teaching. As educators, it is important to establish realistic goals and objectives and each goal should have established objectives that must be accomplished in order to progress to the next goal.

It is very important to have very clear goals and objectives because if the instructor does not have goals and objectives clear from the beginning the course is going to be a chaos, both goals and objectives should be posted in one way or another in the syllabus, the instructor and students should be aware of that.

I find then there is no question when a students grade is lower than they expected & they have not completed the work. It's your back up, your protection if you will.

Having clear goals is good for both me and the student, it gives us both an idea on what will be covered. This help alot with planning out each day and lets me focus on what needs to be taught.

Verna,
This is very critical for everyone. They need to see where the course is going and what it takes to meet the requirements. Clear goals and objectives can help make that happen.

It is important to have clear goals and objectives so you or your students are not just going from place to place, task to task, everyone is on the same page and your assignments follow your objectives and makes everything fall into place for learning and or instructing purposes.

Daniel,
Good point. This helps the students to see the ROI of their program. They can see what they are going to get out of the content in relation to their career goals.

Students need to focus on particular topics. The world (of knowledge) is heavy. In addition, the instructor needs to start with the end results in creating the course plans. If you don't know where you are going, any road will do.

Donna,
Clear goals and objectives do just what you have indicated. They give understanding to the students about what is going to occur in the course.
