It important to offer varied Instructional delivery because all students do not learn by just one method but by a combination of different methods.
Deborah,
So true and an important part of teaching and instructional planning. This is what customized instruction is about.

To see what is most effective with your class
All students do not learn in the same way, nor do they all like the same delivery methods. By using various delivery methods, you have a better chance of keeping the students interested, involved, and learning!
Students; whether teens, young adults, or middle age adults; need variety in order to keep their attention peeked! If you are mundane in your presentation or delivery, you will lose the students! Keep it short and keep variety in your classroom! Keep it fun for them and you create a more interesting and exciting classroom experience!
Billie,
Yes, they should. Through variety students stay focused on the course and the learning process. Also, variety reduces their zoning out during long lecture sessions.

I think back to the days of taking courses and always learned more when Instructors used a variety of instructional methods. I use a variety of instructional delivery methods in the courses I teach so the students will retain information and I can hit on the various learning styles for each student. Students should enjoy learning and the courses they take.
Well, each student's learning style is different and as an instructor it is my job to make sure each student has an opportunity to learn. I personally have non traditional students this term that I know will require special attention. It will be my job to make sure I keep the course at a pace where my entire class takes home the information each day.
Amanda,
Good reminder for instructors. We need to bring variety and change of pace to our classes if we are going to keep students engaged and focused on what is being taught.

It is important to vary your delivery because you are dealing with a number of different types of personalities and learning curves. Never want a student to feel left out because you are comfortable in a certain way to convey your point.
Inasmuch as students have varied preferred learning styles offering a variety of instructional delivery methods provide a means to optimize mastery of the learning objectives.
I have found out it is important to change up your instructional delivery to be able to reach the different learning capabilities that the students have. In doing this you reach more students and keep them all interested and keep their attention.
Qadar,
Good multiple learning opportunities. You are providing your students a number of different ways to become engaged in the learning process.

I ask students the first day of the class how they want me to deliver the lecture. Most of the time, 90% percent of the class are visual. I include pictures in my presentation. I also go back and forth between the lecture and the software (EHR) I teach. I also give them print out of the lecture as a hand out.
Yolanda,
Good point. Students like to see how they can personalize the content to enhance their career progress. The more they see how this can be done the higher their motivation level will be.

Varied instruction can be needed by the same class each time that it meets. Sometimes it depends on the subject matter for that lesson and sometime it depends on the demeanor of the class that day. Not everyone has a good day every day. Just sense your class and change your delivery as the mood changes. Things will be much easier for everyone.
Allows multiple means of interacting with curricular materials. Allows teachers to individualize lessons to meet students specific goals while helping them meet state and local standards.
Thank You,
Yolanda Carbaugh
Scott,
I agree with the need for variety because as you say in the real world we all encounter different situations where we need to be able to process content in different ways. The more expertise we have in doing this the more successful we are going to be.

While I may enjoy a certain method, I have found my students need variety to help bring home the message. It also sets them up for experiencing the real world work environment which changes without our permission, adjusts based on dominant personalities and doesn't always work in our favor.
Scott
It is important to offer a variety of instructional delivery methods in class because not everybody learns the same. If you change your methods from time to time, you are more likely to reach a larger majority of your students.
