It keeps the student from being bored, Its good to keep them on their toes and expect the unexpected.

are you teaching in a ground classroom or online?

That sounds cool. Love to attend your class sometime. I teach A&P class and lab online, but having music playing is not encouraged (especially for the archived chats). Also, there are big problems with copyright. However, I need to check that out.

It is important because there will be a better chance of reaching more students properly -- if a method fails at first, or does not have the desired effect, there is still a chance that the next method will reach those students.

Using a variety of instructional delivery methods are important to help get the information across to our students. Since each student's learning style is different (audio, visual, kinesthetic) and I believe that this can change depending on the topic (sorry, I don't really fully agree with the statement that adult learners have a predominate learning style - I think it can vary with regard to the type of topic covered. And for that topic a one particular learning style might dominate). Thus, it is essential to vary delivery methods. Besides, teaching only one way become boring not only to the students, but to the instructor as well.

I feel that one of the benefits of years of experience is to be able to take the information and relate it to something that is meaningful to the student without much trouble. By varied felivery methods I am also able to see the light come on in numerous eyes rather than those that are just like me.One of the greatest moments in a teachers life is seeing her influence on her students to make them better at what they do.

Hello All,
It is very important to vary your instructional delivery. Teaching one way all the time leads to a boring class, and your student will not feel like engaging if they are bored. When you vary your instruction it adds personality to your lectures.

Since I often cannot tell if a student is truly paying attention and obsorbing information I must continue to vary my approach so that i ensure they get involved on some level

You have to offer various instructional delivery ways so that you can catch all of or most of your students learning aspects. Every student learns in a different way/manner. Be prepared to deliver various ways not only for your students learning aspects but to keep them engaged and interested in what your delivering to them. This will also help in more class participation/discussion. If you have their attention, they're more apt to stay focused and be more attentive and active in the class.

Offering varied instructional delivery may result in improving content delivery and better learning outcomes. Examples include changing your tone of voice by injection enthusiasm and passion in the delivery of your message, moving/walking around the classroom to draw attention to yourself, using eye contact, and using different vehicles to teach with (i.e., slide show, hand-outs, group/individual assignments, etc…).

to assure that every type of learning style is addressed during lecture/laboratory setting.

Offering various types of delivery is important due to the fact that students have different learning styles. I offer a VARK assessment to all of my students on day 1 of class to assess their preferred method of instructional delivery.

Sandra,
Sounds like a fun class. You are a great job of engaging students in a class that is technical in relation to content and knowledge acquisition.

Everyone learns differently. As an instructor you always need several ways of making a point. In my anatomy class I use poems and music at times along with lecture. The students love it and they are enjoying learning in class.!

Since everyone is a little different in the ways they learn, this will increase the possibility of getting the information across in an understandable way. Some will even vary on style depending on the subject.

Your students come in all different varieties of learning subject matter. instructors need to use different methods of instruction to include every student.

To incorporate teaching styles best suited for a variety of students.

All students learn in different manners. So having mini camps set up in classrom for them to partake in will not only have them moving around, but the can chose which camp has the learning style that best suit them

I like the mini-lecture idea. I know I personally am only able to sit still and learn for a limited amount of time, and while in college, courses were either 50 minutes or took a break at that time to facilitate learning. I will try to set up my lectures in the mini-lecture format, though our classes are 4-5 hours long with a break

Alan,
Students like to hear stories about their field that their instructors have experienced. They help to make the content relevant to what they are learning. So keep sharing the stories and showing the students that they have a future if they are willing to put forth the effort.
