Hi Tasha,
Good list! Thanks for sharing it with us. I know it will be of great help to instructors that are just starting their teaching careers and are looking for strategies they can use in their classes.
Gary

I make the course content applicable to the students' field of work by using relevant examples

Hands-on training provides real world experience by allowing students to get their hands directly on whatever is being learned.
Through this teaching strategy students reap the benefit of the acquired information or skill sticking with them. Hands-on training is often facilitated trough real life situations or through skills practice in an imaginary setting.

In higher education course content should be relevant to the course objectives.
1. Lecture Formats
2. Discussion
3. Brainstorming
4. Demonstrations
5. Hands on training
6. Role-Play and skills practice
7. Case Studies
8. Games
9. Integrating Technology
10. Cooperative Learning

talk to students 1 on 1 about every 2-3 week swhile show ing them their class grades, are talk to them if I see they are failing a test.

Usually, I use my past experiences in the profession to illustrate the different ways in which the topic has impacted my own experiences and career. Once I discuss these points where my career has come into contact with the subject matter in a very broad way in the beginning, I will later offer more specific descriptions of specific ways the lesson material is used.

It is very important to learn how your students learn. You have to be able to adapt to various teaching styles.

When my class has an assignment and if my students have experiance with it in real life I give the student the chance to tell their story towards the end of class if they want to share with the rest of the class.

Course content can be made relevant and applicable by using examples of ones own experiences in the proffession. This makes for a relative relatable strategy in which the student can identify with. Also using others esperiences also as case senerios.

I often involve the student in case studies. they tend create the best result for engagement by the student.

I agree. I like to incorporate case studies into the classroom to emphasis this vary thing. We lecture on the urinary system, for example, and then I give the students the presenting clinical symptoms of a patient in an Emergency Room and ask them to theorize possible causes of the patient's disorder.

Assign individual projects so as to accomodate students that learn at a faster pace.

I look to the areas that are common to both myself and the student, thenwork to bring them to getheer.

I plan to take all of the continue educational classes i can.

I use a research paper as the final assingment for my English course. For this assignment, I ask my students to use 2 reliable sources to answer a question of their choice related to their area of study. This prepares them to be able to research questions as they come up in their future as both students and professionals.

I make a check list for my students on the board so they are allowed to see what is expected of them each day of class and as we go through our day we check off each accomplishment.

Hi Barbara,
Application and relevancy are two critical parts of instructional planning. You are offering variety to your students so you can keep them engaged throughout the class sessions. Good strategies.
Gary

Hi Amy,
Good balance to your approach. Your students are being exposed to variety on a continued basis leading up to application. Good way to show them relevancy.
Gary

I find current, and at times controversial, news stories and/or media events help connect with the students.

I would make sure that I give lectures, use power points or other visual aids, and hands on lessons to make the content relevant to all students who may have different learning styles.
