In order to receive the maximum benefit from your teaching, it would benefit the instructor to know if his/her students were visual, auditory, or tactile learners and structure the lectures accordingly.
I simply think back to when I was in college and how I learned. That helps alot.
I find it amazing and challenging the different styles students have. This certainly allows me the opportunity to use different methods of teaching and/or instruction.

We are a construcion trade school, about 50% is hands-on. The other half is audio and written involving codes and physics invoved to be able to become top-rated (paid) technicians. Visual is the basics of the hands-on skills. The audio and written is often described in foul terms as unneeded. Videos are considered nap-time. For the majority of students that take advantage of all learning styles do well in all their classes and have less trouble in finding better paying positions with better paying employers.
With those who will not attempt other learning styles I have worked with them and covering their opinion of unwanted material and have paced the classes to help them get material that they will need. I have had students that spent the entire class whinning how they were being gypped by the
program a few months later come back and say if it wasn't for what they considered unnneeded material they wouldn't have the good job they now have

I have found that asking at the beginning of the quarter and finding out which students learn which way lets me know how I will be instructing in my class (lesson planning). It lets me know how I will have to diversify myself because my teaching style is clearly a reflection of my personal learning style as I have observed lately, as well as how to set students up in groups that will benefit them the most.

Even though using a variety of teaching methods is best. I will be able to emphasize those that best suite my student's needs. I will improve teaching techniques by developing competency in all styles.
Through assessment, I can refine my instruction to optimize individual success for each student, and help shore up areas that need strenghtening. I think teaching in a students' preferred style helps the student feel more comfortable with the subject matter and encourages confidence, which is so important for motivation and continued achievement.
I have found that some student would tell you openly what they and some like to stay quiet and suffer. I always add different kind of assignments for my class so all style of learners are getting the material. I use powerpoint and also give them handouts of the powerpoints so students can scribble therie own notes on it. We do something called a textile jeopardy and that is always a hit.
We also do tactile fabric swatch anaylasis.
I do inline quizes and forums for shy students who don't want to speak too much in class.
Everyone learns through different styles.....find out what style learners YOUR students are .
