I use my own tests with true and false, and multipuly choice. I have found that it was easier for be to write the test that depend on Pearson to let me access the test through the computer. The students seem to prefer all true and false, but I have refrained from that at this point.

usually most of the tests are multiple choice, true and false, and matching because they are onvenient for most of the student's brains capabilities

I personally like the test banks provided by the publisher. I have the option to review the questions and adapt my classes accordingly.

I like to use Short Answer and Skill Assessments. Short answers allow me to see if a student understands what I am teaching and Skill Assessments allow me to see if the student has the skills down.

Hi Robert - Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, when we are asking for a higher level of thinking in our assessments, the level of instruction must correlate. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Charles - Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that choice of assessment type must reflect the material being taught. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Kira - Good choices of assessment types! Susan

It really depends on the subject. If it was only one or two topics short answer. If we covered large areas of information I would use a combination of multiple choice ans true and false.

The format selection, for myself anyway, is determined by the material taught and the application of siad material. example: in an elctricity class i would chose mutiple choise as well as skills application

I do as well for all of my test. This allows them to think.

I prefer to use a combination in each test. I think that it gives a more rounded view of what the student has grasped from the course.

When you a selecting test formats I think you should first evaluate what type of students you have in your class. You should take a look at the overall learning habits for the entire class. The test should be able to hit every ones needs. My first exam I always make an exam that would have true and false, multiple choice, fill in the blank and one or two essay questions.

I have tried to use short answer almost exclusively. I felt that properly defined concepts shoqwed hgiher levels of learning. What I was not prepared for was the level of preparedness my students required. It made me realize that I needed to grow as an instructor before giving those assessments.

I try to find a format that fits best the students learning styles

Hi Veronica - It is a bit more difficult to use varied assessment types when teaching Math, but you have some great strategies! Best wishes - Susan

I perfer to use performance event type questions because I teach math. However, I will admit that I often use T/F, multiple choice and Fill in the Blanks so the test doesn't seem as hard. And I will embed formulas within those questions to help later on in the performance events.

It is essential that I see the steps students use to solve problems. Hence my choice of performance event type questions.

Since I teach the Intro class and have all the new students, I have opted to use two testing methods. Multiple choice, with the questions worded in my own words. The second method of testing is diagrams and projects to test their skills.

I use a weekly multiple choice testing strategy. Also I have three hands on tests before the final exam which is also hands on. I feel that in any IT program there has to be hands on tests to see if students are capable of applying the knowledge they have learned.
